Do I need Separate Power For Speakers on SP2208WFP Monitor?

On the back of my monitor, aside from the speaker plug (which says audio out) there's a dc power slot for speaker power. I don't remember my monitor coming with two different power connectors. I've never used the monitor speakers and was curious how they sound. The manual seems to be missing online, but it does say on the monitor page that the plug is optional. Does that mean the speakers will work without the separate dc power?

Also, why does the audio port on the back say audio out? If I'm connecting from my monitor to my computer's sound card and want to get sound from my speakers shouldn't it say audio in?

The speakers can be powered using the monitor connector. <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> The speakers would then be plugged into the PC sound card sound out jack. The monitor green audio out jack would only be used if you were bringing IN audio from the PC via the HDMI jack.

My monitor is connected via dvi. I'll try connecting it in a few minutes. The other thing is the menu on the monitor doesn't let me access the speaker settings.

When the Dell Soundbar is not properly connected to the monitor, the audio menu is not available.
