Hard Drive Compatibility - R515

Hello all and hope you are all doing exceptionally!

Our goal here is to get a direct-attached Veeam immutability repo (on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS) configured using an R515. Original documentation is showing 24TB as max capacity, however later firmware release notes for the raid controller(PERC H700i) is showing that it can support up to over 1100TB configurations. I have updated the BIOS (to support UEFI 2.1 - BIOS v2.4.1) and Raid controller(Firmware v12.10.7-0001) to latest release per dell's support site.

To meet this goal, I need to confirm IF I can do 10TB, 12TB, or 16TB, SAS drives in a RAID 6 properly to meet the space requirements for our environment. Should and will it be able to handle this sort of capacity? Please...any and all insight and help is greatly appreciated!

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell but the current spec sheet for your RAID controller doesn’t specify for those you mentioned( 10TB, 12TB, or 16TB, SAS drives), I’m afraid. We could wait around to see if other community users have actually tried this themselves. Sorry I can’t be of help this time. Wish you a good one.

Just reporting that on my New R7515 using the PERC 740p raid controller, I had no issues setting up a Raid 5, using 6 WD RED SA500 NAS SATA SSD drives,  2tb ea.  I assume higher capacity drives in this family should work just fine also.

Hi, I am in the same place as you are. What was the final configuration that you went with? Could you update us?
