PowerEdge R930: SSDs detected in BIOS but not in OS

Hello,

I just bought a Dell R930, with three SSDs mounted; they are well recognized in the BIOS but not by the OS that I want to install, vmware ESXi 7.0. I also tried to install Ubuntu 16.04 LT 64 Bit which is supported by the R930 but same punishment, no disk detected for installation.

Installed disk specifications

- Dell EMC SSD 1.92TB SAS 12Gbps (KPM6XRUG1T92)
- Dell EMC SSD 960GB SAS 12Gbps (XS960SE70134)
- Dell SSD 400GB SAS 12 Gbps (KPM5XMUG400G)

Thanks for your help.

You need to create virtual disk for the disk to be available in the operating system. As you have disks of different size creating one RAID will end up not utilizing all space and only 400GB(lowest size) will be utilized from every disk. If you need these drives available as separate drives in the OS then you can create 3 RAID 0 virtual disk where each virtual disk having one disk. Please note RAID 0 will not have any redundancy and if disk is failed then data is lost.

What storage controller you have on the server? Did you created a virtual disk using the drives?

I have the Dell Perc H730P 2GB (J14DC) controller. I did not create a virtual disk, the configuration is blank.

Thanks.
