iDRAC 7 Firmware update from 1.23.23
Hi Team
I have Dell server R420, and it had iDRAC 7 firmware version 1.23.23. need to update to the latest one. I found Firmware ver 1.66.65_a00, when I used it gave error RAC0142 the firmware image file is not valid for iDRAC Firmware update??? I got it from the Dell website.
My question is, where can I get the latest firmware? I can't find the latest one for that iDRAC

You can download iDRAC Images from below link. You can refer "Other Available Versions" section on below link to get the required version. Once you download the 1.66.65_a00 image you need to extract it to get firmimg.d7 file. You need to upload firmimg.d7 file to iDRAC to update the FW. As you have very old iDRAC FW you need to perform staged update of iDRAC than updating iDRAC from very old build to latest. Also ensure you are updating BIOS also along with iDRAC Update to ensure both are updated parallelly to latest

You can download "idrac7__145__45_A00.exe" file. This is a self extractable executable and you can double click on any windows machine to extract the content. The extracted content will have firmimg file.

Hi all,
I'm in the same process for a R720XD. I would like to know what download should I do and how to extract the firmimg.d7 file. I have dowloaded:
My OS is CentOS6 but 64 bits and no file seams available as "LN64".
I try to run
as it is identified as a POSIX shell script text executable but this requires to be root (for extraction ?). I'm affraid to broke something using root privilege as my linux is not 32 bits but 64 bits.
Any advice ?
Thanks
Patrick

Update: solution found reading the ESM_Firmware_47G7D_LN32_1.45.45_A00.BIN file content:
and file is ./IDRAC-1.45.45/payload/firmimg.d7

Hi Team,
I have the same problem with my r720:
Warning ! iDRAC initialization error. Continuing to boot may yield unexpected power loss due to unknown Power inventory and various features lost such as Remote Access, Active Power Management, Thermal Management, Inventory, LCD, or System Error Reporting.
Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run system setup program
- If I hit F2, in BIOS option, under iDRAC Setting, I have: "SWC0700: iDRAC is not ready. The configuration values cannot be accessed."
- If I hit F1, the boot sequence continue and complain again about iDRAC "SWC0700: iDRAC is not ready. The configuration values cannot be accessed."
but if I press F1, the real boot continue.
I came across
https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000120131/poweredge-idrac-recovery-procedure-with-firmimg-d7
The Bios is something like 2.52 or 2.56
I am not exactly sure which iDrac version I had running.
If I have to guess, I would say something like 2.30.30.30...
I have downloaded all iDrac versions and have extracted firmimg.d7 from all of them, which are:
1.20.20
1.23.23
1.31.30
1.35.35
1.37.35
1.40.40
1.45.45
1.46.45
1.57.57
1.66.65
2.10.10.10
2.15.10.10
2.20.20.20
2.21.21.21
2.30.30.30
2.31.31.30
2.32.31.30
2.40.40.40
2.41.40.40
2.50.50.50
2.52.52.52
2.60.60.60
2.61.60.60
2.63.60.62
Which version should I use on the SD disc?
Thank you
Marco

Hi
Thank you for your feedback.
There is no web interface, and trying to update it via redhat CLI does not work,, nor racadm racreset can connect
An update from my side:
What caused this, might have been that one power supply was defect, when I tried to do a rebranding
I tried it the image from 2.63.60.62 after replacing the defect powersupply.
there was no LED flashing, that might be the reason why it did not try to boot from the SD card.
I left the server now powered down - and basically be thrown out …
…
If anyone has an idea, please let me know.
Thanks
Marco

I also have a 720 that's sitting at 1.23.23 trying to get updated. I've been fighting it for weeks. Had to build an XM VM just to try and get into iDRAC and thought I had a chance but it's got a webpage loading error. I then tried updating to 1.31.31 from LCC and get invalida repository location if I put firming.d7, but when I have the iDRAC7.1.31.30.zip I get update package path not found or path not accessible. The USB is fat32 and bootable. Server is currently running esxi 7. Do I need to create a live usb, boot into it and try and do the iDRAC update from it?

User_434d0f,
Would you confirm a couple things for me?
What version is the BIOS currently at?
What specific update (name or link) were you trying in each case?
You should be able to go to the link here, then download the iDRAC7__1.31.30__A00.exe version on a different system than the server, extract the files and locate the firmimg.d7 file and save to USB, then access the LCC Update and rollback page and then select the .d7 file from the USB and update. That is what the process should be, but I would try away from being within a VM.
Let me know if this helps.

Just a heads up this server was given to me and trying to make it work in my lab. Bios is 2.7.0. the exe is iDRAC7__1.31.30__A00.exe and when I boot to LCC and get to LCC update and rollback page it see's the USB but nothing on it that I can tell. There's not a dropdown option to select something on the usb so I typed iDRAC7__1.31.30__A00.exe and get pic below
and when I try to type out the firming.d7 I get the below pic
The end goal is to get iDRAC access and I'm assuming the newest iDRAC Firmware for this server 2.63.60.61 will allow something other than an old XP machine to access it. Everything else I tried I was getting SSL and cipher issues.

If you copy the entire .exe to the USB, without extracting, is that visible under the LCC rollback and update page?
Also, yes you could use the Live ISO and update from it.

With the usb attached I can't select anything. Do you have a recommendation of a live iso that 'shouldn't' be painful to use? I also checked when trying another thing and LCC is version 1.0.0.5747 so I don't think whoever had this server before me ever updated anything.

You can fidn the Live ISO here, it should be fairly easy, as you are just booting to it and then running the updates from there. I would focus on the BMC and LCC to start, as you aren't far behind on the BIOS, and I wouldn't progress it until you get the LCC and BMC more current.
