Oh now you really aren't going to like me. As seen on the top of page 249 here, the R730 only supports using GPUs for compute and co-processing, but it doesn't support external video out.
Looks like all the cards listed on those two lists are for number crunching not display, so it seems the P5000 or M5000 are the only two options for that (but may not work with ESXi)
Not that is all encompassing. I have one here on page 12, but is limited based on ESXi compatibility, which doesn't list the two I pointed out based on that. The other option is the Parts for My Dell page for the R730, found here, but that will be limited based on part availabilty from Dell.

Aw5585,
The reason you're seeing the training error is that while the R730xd supports the Quadro K1200, the R730 doesn't.
The R730 does look to support the Quadro P5000 (p/n# 00MKC) and M5000 (p/n# Y1P3V) models though.
Let me know if this helps.

Is there a comprehensive list anywhere of the graphic cards the R730 supports? Or are those the only two? Thx

Sigh. Says the person who brought the wrong server. So basically it's the onboard graphics or nothing as far as ESXi is concerned?
