R620 144GB RAM DIMM Layout ?!

Hi,

I have a Dell R620 with 18 DIMM Dual Rank DDR3 [ 8GB 2Rx4 PC3 10600R 1333MHz ] modules, totaling 144GB.

How should the layout be, I have gone through [ Dell PowerEdge R620 Owner's Manual ] but it does not properly explain how to use 144GB DIMM with 2 processor. I understand its just a sample configuration but its quite confusing.

Currently I have installed A1 to A9 and B1 to B9 but the system only detects up to 128GB. I'm unsure how to go about this.

Thank You

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell.

Memory configuration: Dual processor does not have 144GB that's why it's not working.

Is all DIMM modules are same model?

Can you check whether memory information shown in all slots in iDRAC?

Can you remove DIMM from A9 and B9 and see whether it is showing 128GB. If it is showing 128 then you can either swap the memory or try populating the 2 DIMM in another slot to see whether there is any issue with memory modules.

Hi @DELL-Shine K

Please find current configuration

I removed the A9 and B9 and inserted them into A11 and B11, and now the below error appears.

Also at different time same error appears for different slots, previously it was showing for A3 and A11, even though no DIMM were swapped.

Looks like a memory module issue. Is the memory module from Dell? Did you have latest BIOS and iDRAC FW installed on the server?

Thanks,

iDRAC was uo to date, BIOS updated aa well.

Memory modules are not Dell, mix of Samsung and HP.

All 144GB were working fine around end of Dec 2022. I was travelling for a month, returned and these errors started to appear.

Hello, looks like iDRAC is just not recognizing the memory. And as you were saying since it's not a Dell part, there's not much we can help with, I'm afraid.
