SW GPU over a DW GPU riser config
Hello,
we have a newer poweredge 750 server with this riser "330-BBRW : Riser Config 2, Full Length, 4x16, 2x8 slots, DW GPU Capable" included to host a GPU. Perhaps we were wrong when chose the correct ConfigX but the idea was to but a T4/A2 nvidia Gpu, but I've been told by the reseller that I can only add a DW card such as "A30" or "A16" because of that "DW" specification.
On an older R740 we have "330-BBHH : Riser Config 4, 3x8, 4 x16 slots" hosting a T4 without any issues, so I have some questions, just to clarify my knowledge:
- "DW" and "SW" does differ only for the shape of the card? I mean, "DW" requires "two slots" only?
- why can't I use the same slot I would use for a A30 for a T4 instead? I thought that DW can fit also SW
- what is the difference between a GPU bought from Dell and same model from another vendor (apparently they look like same product) ?
- is the warranty of the server void if I add a "SW" on a "DW" configuration? if yes, why?
thanks,
alaxa

You can refer below link for various cards supported for different riser combination. As per your POST you have "Riser Config2-1. with 4x FH and 2x LP".
On this config below cards are supported

Thank you for your kind replay which does not answer to my doubts thought. Help me to understand where I am wrong please.
According to the link you posted I have a matrix of possibilities which fully fit the GPUs you have listed above, that are almost DW-FH and SW-FH (the A10). So I'm wondering why the A2/T4 cannot be installed if they have the same layout of the A10, which, to my point of view, could be installed in any slot except the low profile ones (3 and 6). They are also low power consuming card.
so, is it only a matter of certification? the other options are really expensive and to me too much powerful for our needs.
Thanks,
alaxa

A2/T4 cards are not supported on that specific riser configuration. Not supported does not mean it will not work. As it is not supported it is not validated, hence we can not guarantee that it will work. You can also wait for another Community member who tried this combination to share their experience.

Ok, that makes more sense.
Thanks for your replay. Last question: if I am using that cards in a configuration not supported by Dell, like a SW card in a DW slot, does it mean the warranty is voided for the whole server or just for the card or for nothing (meaning that "it doesn't work we cannot help you") ?
Thanks,
