Dell C6220 HDD Ports
I have a Dell C6220 with 4 nodes. Each node has LSI 9265-8i RAID Controller. I can see 6 drives per node.
I recently got 2U Nodes for the Dell C6220 II. I removed the 1U Nodes and added the RAID Card from 1U to the 2U.
Now I can see only 8 Drives when I add 12 drives. The ports seem to be weird. See picture.
Port 4 seems to be mapped to Port 6. When I add a drive into Port 4, Doesn't seem to be detected by the LSI Raid card. I tried the 6220 II Zoning but SAS Extender was not found. So this means I have a direct one. Also, Port 3 seems to be missing.
Am I missing something here? I am trying to get 2 Nodes to have 12 Drives each.

Hello MightyJainesh,
What controller was originally in the C6220 II?
The one from the C6220 does not appear to be compatible with the C6220 II
Note:

Dell 070MJ8
Hi,
So the reseller tested the 2u nodes with the dell 9265 8i on dell c6220 ii chassis, and it worked. They are using configurable sas backplane, mine on other and is direct.
So the raid card does work, however on mine the ports are not correct.
Is there a certain firmware needed to work with c6220 ii and this raid card ?

Hi @MightyJainesh,
DPN# 70MJ8 is not compatible with C6220 II. Hence, it might be hardware differences that will affect the cause of the issue.

The Raid Card from C6220 work on C6220 II (just won't get the 6Gbps as the new one raid card is designed for).
Since my C6220 has a direct backplane, it is limited to max of 8 drives. 4 Ports will be disabled. Only SAS Extender backplane it can reconfigured to allow all 12 drives/bays to be mapped to a node.

With direct, and using only a single node on C6220 (1U or 2U) (12 Bay 3.5" Direct) and using RAID Controller SAS2008 Mezz, would I be able to get all 12 Drives to show up on the C6220 Single Node?

Hi I can't answer this I'm afraid - you are tying to use a C6220II's for a C6220. Those two may look the same but they are not in fact. This has to be advised someone who has actually done this. You may end up wasting your resources trying this. Sorry I can't be of help this time. Wish you a good one.

Sorry there is a confusion here .
I am trying to get c6220 gen 1 to run with only one shed, and to see all 12 x 3.5. It is a direct backplane.

Mighty Jainesh,
There isn't a supported path to do so, with a single sled the most 3.5 drives that would be supported is 6, with 2.5 drives it would be 8 (as seen here). That being said it doesn't mean it definetly won't work, but since it isn't supported it would be based on trial and error.
Hope this helps clarify things.

This was verified that with Direct Backplane with 3.5" with either 1U or 2U it would only see 6 Drives. The best solution is to replace it with Dell C2100 or R720xd.
