Official Word on Screen Damage PLEASE!!!?????

I love my Streak, but am so scared of breaking it because in all the threads about broken Streak screens on this forum and elsewhere there is no official response from Dell. Sometimes Dell or the carrier replaces the device, but there are a scary number of incidents where they don't.

From the forum post you can tell that there is some build quality issue with at least the early Streaks. Their LCD screens seem to be subject to cracking under the "Gorilla" glass if dropped, carried in one's pocket too hard, or if the devices is used on a Tuesday.

So is there a problem with the screens?

What is Dell doing to resolve the issue?

Is the screen even covered by the basic Dell warranty?

I'm asking because I don't know whether to recommend the phone/tablet to friends. I have purchased a third party warranty for my Streak but I'm still nervous about the screen.

I will be buying one of these as soon as I can to protect my nearly $600 dollar phone.

I have a dell streak with a screen that is cracked.

I had it in my pocket and when i pulled it out the screen had cracked clear across the smaller width. its about 1/3 of the way down the device.

the lcd functions fine, but im not going to use it after I saw the youtube vids of broken lcds...

So Officially ( as I just talked to customer support),  Dell has decided that the device screen falls outside of warranty, and that there are ZERO repair options at the current time. They are also 'real sorry' about the fact that I still have a monthly mobile bill and no way to stop it. Hope fully I can pay AT&T in sorrys next month.

They took my Service Tag, and gave me a ticket# for when i hear that repair options are available. So I have to make sure I keep listening real good!

The Uniform Commercial Code Article 2 dictates contractual terms for the sale of goods. All goods carry with them an implied warranty of merchantability/fitness unless disavowed. Products may be returned within a "commercially reasonable period of time." That period of time is determined through trade usage, custom, course of dealing, and course of performance.

Seems that the normal course of performance of a cell phone would be to pocket it, use it, and re-pocket it.

I passed up an opportunity to ask my question about the Streak screen's durability of our Dell rep at an event the other day. They were introducing new products and talking about what's coming down the road. They had a streak and were showing it off. I didn't want to pee in the pot.

So I figure I'll ask my Dell rep directly since the people who monitor this forum aren't responding.

Unfortunatly I have no news to share about Dell's warranty for the Streak and whether or not the screen is covered by it.

I have decided to recommend the Streak to my friends, but I caution them that Dell support is questionable for the device and I will adviser them to purchase a thrid party warranty such as the one I purchased with http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/

I've had my Streak for nearly 2 months now and have experienced only two lockups/reboots. I have been very careful not to drop my Streak or put excess pressure on the screen. So far so good.

Please Dell stop being silent on the Streak. You are turning away potential customers.
