Hi,
I replaced a failed HDD and when installing Win8 from from Dell's Windows 8 Recovery Media disk I get asked for the product key. There is no option to skip the key. Dead in the water.
Posts similar to mine end up with a DELL support asking for a PM of the service tag. I can do that but need to know who to PM.
Thanks
Wayne

This appears to have really saved my day. Thank you so much!
Windows 10 installed just fine and, according to the screenshot below, I believe it got activated. Can you confirm that? It says "Windows ativado", meaning "Windows activated". Just for curiosity, I tried to run one of those Product Key finders and it didn't find the MSDM table in ACPI.
I have installed new HDD and prepared usb to reinstall win 8. My laptop has sticker on the bottom that says Windows 8 but when I get to the prompt for a key it is blank and needs me to input. According to instructions provided by Mr Yip it should auto fill this but it is not. Where can I get this info?
Thanks

You skip that step and allow WIndows 8 to complete installing.
Once you get online, Windows 8 should activate.
.
8.0 or 8.1 require Generic Key to install.
These keys are not for Activation Just for install.

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro on my Dell Latitude 3550. The WINDOWS 8.1 sticker is on the bottom of the laptop but no Product Key. <Service Tag removed>. I downloaded the windows 8.1 ISO from Microsoft but it is asking for a Product Key, which I don't have and it will not let me skip entering the key.
