New Dell XPS vs Aurora R15?
Hello friends!
Usually I would build my own PC, especially a gaming rig, but I have a nice big Dell credit and I just don't feel like building my own,
Basically it boils down to what supports a RTX 4090 since my gaming of choice is flight sims, especially DCS World.
I've followed the Alienware PC reviews over the years and Gamers Nexus took the R13 apart and displayed what an utter proprietary, under cooled disaster that machine was. Looking at the R15, I don't see they have really learned many lessons.
The other option is the "New Dell XPS", which I can't seem to find a model name for (8960?).
I tweaked my Dell XPS 8940 with an RTX 3070 to game very well, adding fans and replacing the hockey puck sized piece of aluminum with a way better option (You may have seen my video - https://youtu.be/nWOeO1Cfva0 )
That said, I am leaning towards the XPS since it seems to have better cooling than the overstuffed/not so great airflow of the R15
But I wanted to find out what owners of either of those think of their purchases!
Thanks!

Four configs for "New XPS Desktop" (XPS 8960) are currently being offered. All four of them have "K" processors and say they include liquid cooling.
Service Manual and Specs.

I wonder how it performs side by side against the R15

No idea...
There a couple of reviews on line for the XPS 8960, so search for them....

Looks like the XPS 8960 has a 120mm AIO liquid cooler for the CPU, where the Aurora R15 has a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. It looks like it would be simple to install a 240mm AIO liquid cooler in the front of the XPS 8960.

@ProfessorW00d - That difference may be based on the relative size of the airspace inside each case. A smaller airspace might need a bigger/more efficient cooler.

How different do you think the relative size of the airspace inside each case would be? They look pretty similar to me, although I do not have either one on hand.

Well from what I keep reading and comparing, for a premium price, you are paying for yesterday's technology.
The DDR5 is throttled down to 4800, leaving a lot of performance on the table. The CPU can use much faster memory speeds
It also doesn't give the version of the m.2 , the PCIE slot (3? 3.1?) and so on.
I've always "Liked" the Alienware machines and their tweaked for gamers even though you loose a lot of upgrade paths being proprietary. But given what I see on both platforms, for the big price tag, you definitely loose out
A bit disappointing

The new XPS 8960 is extremely pricy due to the 40 series video card. Guess I would hold for XPS8950 for longer.

Well I noticed the R15 now has 5200 speed ram available and got some confirmation on some other concerns. So, I bought one and fingers crossed, hope it is everything I want for flight simming. I'll be reviewing it on my YouTube when it arrives
