XPS 8930, NVMe M.2 SSD very slow write speed
This KXG50ZNV256G Toshiba NVMe m.2 SSD drive came with the PC, I was trying to use it as a media cache disk and did a benchmark, the write speed is very slow. ( drive specifications is 2,700 MB/s read and 1050 MB/s write, so I am only getting 1/3 of the write speed)
I checked in BIOS, it is the AHCI mode for the drive.
Internet search led me update the NVMe driver with the OCZ RD400 driver (https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/628odr/toshiba_nvme_slow_write_speed_fix/), but it made no difference.
Has anyone seen similar behavior and have a fix? Thanks for reading my post!

Hello @delldeal , the slow write speed is a common issue for the Toshiba XG5 with low capacity. Dell has a newer firmware for your SSD. Update yours to see if it can improve the performance.

This web page may help. Do you have TRIM enabled and is the drive getting close to full? Either of those will also affect performance.

I have some of these recent Toshiba "XG" SSDs in some XPS laptops, and they are fast for read AND write.
Crystal Disk-Mark is good, but what does Crystal Disk-Info show ?

Thanks for the tips, I tried those commands before, the NVme disk already had TRIM enabled.

Your SSD has already been in use for 5646 hours, so it's probably starting to show some age.
Trim may be enabled on your XPS 8930, but is the SSD actually being trimmed? Trim is enabled on my XPS 8930 too, but when I recently looked at the Optimize Drives page in Win 10 (21H2), it showed the Dell OEM (Micron) NVME SSD in my PC hadn't been re-trimmed in 459 days! I manually initiated a trim, and today that page says " 2 days since..."
You may want to check that out and re-trim, if necessary. Obviously, I can't guarantee that re-trimming will solve your issues...

Thanks, installed the new firmware and see a big jump (74%) in average write performance!
While it still not what can be expected form the original spec (2,700 MB/s read and 1050 MB/s write), I am guessing it is due to the age of the drive, like @RoHe suggested.

Should be fine. Hopefully the new firmware will help with the Toshiba XG5 SSD wear-leveling.
I double-checked, but turns-out that all my Toshiba SSDs are XG6 (and newer) and 512gb (or larger) ... so not much help there.
