XPS15 7590 - Heat and stability issue after upgrade to Win11 ("Power Off - ASF2 force of")
XPS 15 7590
Dear Dell Community, a couple of weeks ago I upgraded my XPS15 7590 from win10 to win11. Everything worked just fine, but for a little overheating I noticed. Since two days ago, suddenly the laptop became instable, with several reboots, and I fear it might have become an hardware problem.
Win 10 worked just fine for three years... I truested the upgrade to win11 could be smooth like silk, and now I have an unusable computer.
I tried to replace the thermal paste and the thermal pads, clean up the fans and the cooling ducts, but no results so far.
May it be an issue related to the battery (the system says it is in "fair" condition) ? In this case, may I simply disconnect the battery and run the XPS only when AC plugged?
May it be an issue related to the RAM?
Any hints welcome.
Thanks a lot in advance
Paolo

It's possible that the heat issue is related to the battery or the RAM, but it's also possible that it could be related to other hardware or software components. To determine the root cause of the problem, you may want to run hardware diagnostics tests on your laptop, check the event logs in the operating system to see if there are any errors or warnings, and update the drivers and firmware to the latest versions.
As for the battery, disconnecting it and running the laptop only when AC-plugged should not have any negative effects. However, it's important to remember that the battery plays an important role in regulating the voltage and power consumption of the laptop, so removing it may impact performance and stability.
It's always recommended to have a backup of your important data, as these types of issues can sometimes indicate hardware failures or corruption, and you may need to reinstall the operating system or replace some components.

The 180W docking station USB type-C may be a more stable and reliable power source compared to a common AC power adapter. However, it ultimately depends on the quality of both the docking station and the power adapter.
Regarding the "ASF2 power off" issue, the BIOS log menu may contain information on the cause of the issue, but it ultimately depends on the manufacturer's implementation of the BIOS. To check the BIOS log, you can enter the BIOS setup menu on your system and look for an option to view the log or event history.
It's possible that upgrading the operating system from Windows 10 to Windows 11 could have caused the issue, but it's also possible that other factors, such as hardware or driver compatibility issues, could be the cause. If you still face the issue even after upgrading the operating system, I would recommend checking the device manager and event viewer logs in Windows, updating drivers and firmware, and contacting the manufacturer for further support.

Thanks @ewongsmx !
Should the 180W docking station USB type-C be a better choice (as for the stability and reliability of the power source) than the common AC Power adaptor? Is there a way to have a deeper log about what may cause the "ASF2 power off" that I may read in the BIOS log menu?
May all this have been caused just simply by upgrading the OS from win10 to win11?

I tried to detach the battery, but the system does not even boot (it seems not to pass even the POST). Tried with different RAM, but still the same. The system boots and after at most 2 mins suddenly restarts. There is little trace in the kernel events, but I cannot understand what to look for. It seems an HW issue, since if I start the laptop with the Fn key pressed, the diagnostics stops just after the first video and fan test.
If I hit the F2 button and leave the machine in the BIOS setup mode, I can leave the setup on the screen for tens minutes and still no reboot.
Any ideas?
