M630 (VRTX) Blades with Xeon E5-26xx-v4 and ESXi7

Hello,

we have 12 VRTX Systems - all with two blades - six systems with M630 and six with M640 Blades. At the moment all are running ESXi 6.7u3. At the moment the M630 (VRTX) are not on the VMware HCL for ESXi 7. Strange thing ... the "normal" M630 Blades are on that list.

Does anybody know if they will work with ESXi 7. Unfortunately I do not have a local test system with M630 Blades, because they are used in our subsidiaries in several locations in Europe, Canada and China.

Hello,

yes ESXi7 is also supported for M630 VRTX version.

In the drivers and download site you have the option to select this OS.

Thanks

Marco

There are many problems with the ESX7 update using the Dell customized image.

50% failures... First of all, in the customized image the SharedPerc driver is missing. On the VMware page it us not listed in the downloads... Finally I found it unter the Horizon downloads...

When your blade was installed with the 6.7 custom image and you had the Dell add-ons for OpenManage or ISM installed... They are incompatible and needed to be removed.

On some systems I have got after update through the vmware life cycle Manger an error after the reboot, that there is not enough space in the boot bank and system is not able to create a 380MB ram disk... On the first blade with that error I needed to do a total new install, because I 've got after a reboot a missing hypervisor message.

Second blade was updated without problems...

Today an other blade run in just the same error... I will check tomorrow if there is a way to avoid a new installation with complete reconfiguration...

At the moment I am not really amused... We have 14 VRTX System... And with all that problems I takes a lot of time to update the systems.

Also I've run in several problems with M640 boards in the VRTX with CMC v3. 30. After BIOS Update Perc1 left the fault tolerant group... On one system the virtual disk presentation switched to no access for all blades... Presentation needed to be done again. Perc error vanished after fail over of the CMC... The Dell support engineer will check this behavior on his test system and escalate it to 3rd. Level

Hello @DELL-Marco B,

that is not quite correct! With many troubles you can get ESX7 running - you have no warranty that an update works - see my statement ... and the M630 (VRTX) is NOT on the HCL check screenshots

The M630 VRTX is NOT ON THE VMWARE HCL for 7.0 right now.

So on paper its not supportet and youre on your own.

In fact I am not really amused. The systems are only two years old - had cost a lot of money.

I really hope, that Dell do bring them to the VMware HCL - because the normal M630 are certified
