Dell EMC Storage disk failure (evacuate data )

Hi guys, I would like to ask for help regarding our Dell storage EMC SCV3020. We have discovered that one of the disks is defective, and we have also found out that the data on the disk has not been evacuated. How can we solve this issue so that we can proceed with the disk replacement?Dell EMC.JPG

If you have identified a defective disk in your Dell EMC SCV3020 storage system and you have not yet evacuated the data from that disk, it is important to take the necessary steps to protect your data and ensure that you do not lose any important information.

Here are some steps you can take to safely replace the defective disk:

  1. Take the disk offline: Before replacing the defective disk, take it offline to ensure that it is not accessible by the system.

  2. Identify the affected data: Use your storage management software to identify which data is stored on the defective disk.

  3. Evacuate the data: Move the data from the defective disk to another location on the system. This may involve redistributing data across other disks in the storage system to ensure that all data is properly distributed.

  4. Replace the defective disk: Once the data has been evacuated, replace the defective disk with a new one. Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for replacing the disk.

  5. Rebuild the data: After the new disk is installed, you will need to rebuild the data on the system. This process will vary depending on the specific storage system you are using, so consult the manufacturer's instructions for guidance.

  6. Monitor the system: Once the data has been rebuilt, monitor the system to ensure that it is functioning properly and that all data is accessible.

It's also a good idea to have a backup of your data in case of any future disk failures or other issues. Regular backups can help ensure that you never lose important data.

Hi vishvajitd,

Thank you for the information that you have given us. Regarding step procedure number 2, could you please recommend a software tool that we can use to identify whether the affected data is located on the defective disk? Additionally, would you be able to provide us with a step-by-step procedure or screenshot on how to check for affected data?
