Hello, here’s a general guide. Adding an SC420 enclosure to your SC5020 storage system involves several steps.  SC5020 and SC5020F Storage Systems Getting Started Guide (https://dell.to/42extvb)

  1. Preparation: Before you start, it’s recommended to label each port and connector physically for easy identification.

  2. Shutdown: It’s generally safer to add enclosures during downtimes. This means you should shut down your SC5020 storage system before proceeding.

  3. Connection: Connect the SC420 enclosure to your SC5020 storage system. Make sure to follow the correct cabling procedures as outlined in the user manual.

  4. Power On: After ensuring all connections are secure, power on the SC420 enclosure, then power on your SC5020 storage system.

  5. Configuration: Once your system is up and running, you may need to configure the new enclosure using the DSM Client.

It can be done without a needed maintanence window. The enclosure needs to be hooked up a in a specifiy manner and when doing right  the main service isnt interupped.

I have one customer where i had to add 4 SC420 over the years.
