Replicate data from DDVE to another location

If ddve is new for you, you better want to look into that more deeply. Is also data domain new for you as ddve is just a virtual edition of what keep into existence especially as physical appliances and around ddos6.1 or so also as a deployable ddve. At first in prem on vmware and the like and later on also on cloud with now azure, gcp and aws beong supported.

When looking at the ddboost protocol, not only is that handy for client side dedupe so that less data has to travel over the network/wan but also CCR, clone controled replication where NW is in control and aware of the cloning but the actual data transfer occurs between the source and target DD in such a way that only vlocks not yet existing on the target DD need to be send by the source DD. So also that reduces load on the network very much.

If tou would clone however from DD to an AFTD (in your case by handing out a nas share to a NW storage node), then data first needs to be actually tead by the nw read storagenode and then to be send full blown ovet the network to the nw write storagenode (who can be the same but ideally you might wanna have a nw sn close to the device) to be then written in non-deduped format on the nas.

Yes it can be done, but much better would be to have a ddve remotely as well as it makes for much more effective and faster cloning requiring less bandwidth.

As it is also a safeguard, if the primary ddve is unavailable, using a ddve remotely might also benefit from faster restores due to ddboost nowadays offering also compressed restores for recent nw version (I believe nw18.1 and thereabouts).

Some people were forced to have a tape out solution, but luckily we only use cloning between dd's and some smaller sites a ddve (the cloud also uses ddve).
