What do I need to run DD670

Hi there,

So I bought DD670 data domain (picture of what I bought below) and I'm wondering how do I set it up and if I need anything else to run it?

very likely might be dead weight in the sense that running DDOS on it, would require also a license for it to work, related to the amount of disk capacity. So not unless it is already installed on it and working and licensed, you might not be able to do that much with it really.

The dd670 was released initially in 2010, had an EOL in 2014 and EOSS in 2019, so in that sense fairly old. I assume that it would only support up until DDOS6.2, a version that became unsupported last December.

The latest DDOS 6.2.1.90 does not even mention the dd670's as those were already no longer supported when that version was released:

https://dl.dell.com/content/manual51614835-data-domain-operating-system-data-domain-virtual-edition-and-data-domain-management-center-release-notes-6-2-1-90.pdf?language=en-us

"DD OS 6.2.1.90 is supported on the following appliances and DDVE versions:
● Series: DD2200, DD3300, DD6300, DD6800, DD9300, and DD9800
NOTE: Regarding DD systems DD3300, DD6300, DD6800, DD9300, and DD9800 while this release can run on
these systems, it is highly recommend that you update to DDOS 7.x release to avail more features and performance
enhancements
● Series with the Data Domain Extended Retention software option: DD6800, DD9300, and DD9800
● Virtual Edition versions: DDVE 2.0 (RPM upgrade), DDVE 3.0 (RPM upgrade), DDVE 3.1 (RPM upgrade), and DDVE 4.0"

So it might require an older ddos 6.x version, but as said already without a license it is not going to fly anyways... at the time it was also not yet commodity hardware, hence re-using it for something else is also unlikely.

So depending on what you got with the hardware, it might turn out to be a rather costly paperweight? Or didn't you have to pay that much?
