Large set of file to exclude from DX management

We had an issue where we set up a new scanner which was defaulted to scan at a much finer quality than our old scanner. As a result, our images were being captured at 10MB instead of 400K. In a few months we blew past our license limit and started accumulating several hundred gigs of data that was not being written to media. We are now left in a quandary as to how to move forward. We have been given a quote to purchase 700GB of new licenses at several thousands of dollars. To put this in perspective, we only used 600GB in the previous 6 years.

1.) Is it possible to compress the 10MB .bin files?

2.) Is it possible to manually back up and manage the 600GB of data that is currently sitting out there queued to be backed up? We are planning on upgrading our server to one with several TB of storage so we are not anticipating ever having this data being purged and thus needing DX to manage that purge/retrieval process.

3.) Are there any other options available that anyone can think of that will allow us to avoid paying several thousand dollars to fix this mistake?

What media are you purging to?  Is it reasonable to just recall all the purged data, copy it to your new multi-TB server with robocopy and then move off of DX altogether?
