How to reset a password on EqualLogic PS6500e and EqualLogic PS4100

Hello,

I have three EqualLogic SANs one PS6500e and two PS4100. These have not had support for 2-3 years. My predecessor did not leave the login info to get into these SANs. I am new to managing SANs. However, my company uses Vmware, and I added two new ESXi hosts to my existing cluster at two different sites. So, I need to map the data stores to the new ESXi hosts. They are already mapped to the existing hosts.

I have the SAN Headquarters software installed on one of my VM that I can login to and see all three EqualLogic SANs. I don’t see any way to map the data stores from the Headquarters software. I am trying to login to the EqualLogic Group Manager for each SAN and reset the password so I can get in.

I have found several URLs related to this (I listed them below) but both processes are different. Does anyone know what the processes is to reset the process? Also if anyone happens to have a good guide for mapping a data store to ESXi hosts.

Hello,

The first link is correct    You need a serial connection to the active CM  (green light on controller)

1) Console on the Equallogic and powercycle the device

2) Press CTRL+P on boot

3) Use the following commands:
EQL> setenv RESETPASSWORD 1
EQL> reload

This should reset the password back to defaults =>
Username: grpadmin
Password: grpadmin

4) Reset the password
account select gpradmin passwd

You will then be prompted for the new password

Re: Mapping.  Do you mean new volumes, or new ESXi servers connecting to existing volumes?
My personal choice is to use CHAP accounts.   That way if I am adding a new ESXi host I do not need to modify the EQL configuration.   And for different clusters with different volumes I use different CHAP accounts
Depending on how the volume access is configured currently you can follow the same way.  I.e. if by IP addresses add in the new ones.  If by host IQN  add  the new ones

Hi @dwilliam62 thanks for the info. I will give the password reset a shot.

As far as the remapping. I do mean new ESXi servers connecting to existing volumes. So, I have two ESXi hosts already connected and we bought two more that will replace the old ones. So right now, I added them to the cluster so I have a 4-host cluster and as soon as I can connect the new host to the existing volumes, I am going to decommission the old hosts.

The SANs are connected though iSCSI with an iSCSI Software Adapter in Vmware using an iqn on the existing hosts.

@Alan5528   You are welcome

In that case when you do get logged in and find the volumes you can edit the access control list form the center menu when you select the volume.  Then you can ADD an access record for the IQN names of the new ESXi hosts.   Then on the ESXi nodes you can do a rescan and it will connect to the volumes.

Before you try to connect,  when you add in the discovery address on the new node, go to advanced options   Select edit.  There is a table look for Login_timeout  It will be set to 5 seconds, change that to 60.  At the bottom of that table is Delayed_ACK   UNCHECK that.

there is a guide called TR1091  It's no longer published by Dell but you might fnd it online.  Covers this and more .

You can try this one :

https://static.spiceworks.com/attachments/post/0014/7688/TR1091_Best_Practices_with_EqualLogic_and_VMware_1.1.pdf

esxcli storage nmp satp rule add -s "VMW_SATP_EQL" -V
"EQLOGIC" -M "100E-00" -P "VMW_PSP_RR" -O "iops=3"

Run that on each ESXi node BEFORE you do the rescan also.   This will optimize MPIO for EQL storage

Also  SANHQ is only for monitoring I has no management features.

Good luck,

Don

@dwilliam62 Do you happen to know of a guide on how to do this from the cli. I can SSH into the SAN but cannot get into the Group Manager. I wouldn't of though the passwords would be different between logging in to the Group Manager and logging in with SSH. I ran grpparams passwd hoping it would set the password for logging into the Group Manager but it did not work. I have been trying to find a guide to see if I can do what you outlined for mapping the datastore but with the cli.
