PS4100 c2fpmod alarm messages

Hello all.  I have searched but have yet to find an answer to my question.

We have a customer who has two EqualLogic PS4100 SAN servers.  Both are showing different c2fpmod critical alarms in the CLI.

The alarm I am seeing on SAN1 is:  c2fpmod is not functioning

The alarm I am seeing on SAN2 is repeating.  Meaning it's just scrolling up the CLI screen once every few seconds. :

    c2f_run_load_test: c2fpmod_is_disabled.  Returning

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello,

C2F is the cache to flash, cache backup.  It is a small board attached to each controller.  It's mainly comprised of capacitors to act like a battery.  Those boards have failed on those controllers. Those boards or both controllers will need to be replaced.

Hello,

Are you looking at the GUI or CLI?   At the CLI you can try GrpName>show recentevents and look at that output.

Don,

I have replaced those Daughter boards on both SANs and the errors remain.  Thats why I was thinking it was something else.

If that is the cause and replacing them didn't help, do you think its the Controller Modules then?

Hello,

Each SAN has two controllers, the active CM reports all errors, did you make sure to replace them on controller that it reported the problem on?  Otherwise the entire CM will need to be replaced.

Don

The error should say CM0 or CM1    Do you have the complete error string for each one?

I assumed the CM with the error would be in standby.  I replaced the boards on the CMs in standby.

Is there a way I can determine which CM is at fault?

Neither one says CM0 or CM1.

I know for sure one is exactly as stated above:

c2f_run_load_test: c2fpmod_is_disabled.  Returning

The other I will have to look at it again, but I know it doesn’t say CM0 or CM1

Ok.  It is the Battery Daughter board.

Apparently you can have an alarm on a Controller Module and it will stay a primary.

I had one spare Daughter board and I swapped it out on the Primary Controller Board and the alarm cleared.

Thanks for you help.
