Isilon - syslog port
Hi,
How do you change the port for syslog? I tried updating /etc/mcp/templates/syslog.conf as well as /etc/services, but syslog seems to default back to 514. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello macyero,
There is not a way to change syslog to a different port. If you were wanting to configure remote logging you can do that with your Isilon, but you can’t change the syslog port.

I disagree with this. We utilize Splunk for a syslog target and are utilizing a different port.
Make a copy of the /etc/services for a backup. Then modify /etc/services, comment the syslog 514/udp line, and add another syslog XXXX/udp line with the open port you want to use.
run a tcpdump to vierify.
The downfall, yes after an upgrade of the OneFS system you will need to update the servcies file again.
