Unresponsive Isilon HD400 External network 10Gb with Nexus

Hi All,

I believe i'm in a strange situation. The guy who set up (partially) has moved company.

10x EMC Isilon HD400 external network 10Gb NICs (2x) were connected to Nexus switches. Isilion with OneFS 8.0.1. I can see there is Link aggregation being setup on Isilon 10Gb NICs. Nexus was configured with port-channel, vpc and speed to 10000. With less network knowledge, i see no issues with both Nexus configurations. Physical NICs LED were green-lit.

9 out of 10 Isilon boxes were up and running. I don't see any communications or traffic between Isilon and Nexus. Even MAC address table on Nexus was empty. Based on Googling, did so much testing including rebooting both Nexus and Isilon boxes but with no luck.

Let me share my solution in this forum thread. Out of no way, i just simply removed the port-channel config and instantly all the Isilon boxes start communicating and the Nexus MAC address table shows the MAC addresses of Isilon. <------ I think i got it working.

1. By removing port-channel statement, is there any long-term impact/consequences on Client--->Nexus--->Isilon?

2. Or do i need to re-add the port-channel statement on Nexus?

I'm sure you guys have more complex setup and i hope to recevied some advices.

All works well.

Hello James_007

You should be ok with not using port channel statements on your Isilon.  Here are some guides that maybe of assistance as well.
