Installing mSATA card on Inspiron 15R special edition (7520)

Hey

I have inspiron 15r se with 1TB HDD.

I would like to add a mSATA card to my system to be able to use IRST.

Is it possible now?

I am skeptic because I have read online that systems which were not shipped with 32 GB mSATA card, doesn't have mSATA port for later installation.

When I purchased the system at that time dell had the option for adding 32 GB mSATA card in the customization section, but now dell has removed the whole customization section from the website. And in the pre-configured models, there is no option for mSATA card.

Please clear this doubt and if possible post the pictures of the system and the daughter board where mSATA card can be installed.

If you need any further details regarding my system configuration, feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance

Perhaps the diference was that they enable me to place the order even though there was no stock at that time. Try to do that, your welcome.

Salaam

I have been trying to order this part from Dell US for over a month, since end of FEB actually.  Each time I call I am told that it is not in stock and that it should arrive soon.  The representative always tells me that they will contact me as soon as the part is in stock but I never get called.  It seems weird that it take so long for this part to be stocked again.  Inshallah I will continue calling and waiting.  Thanks for the info!

Can someone from Dell please confirm or deny that part number N7J97 is indeed a replacement/alternative to N7JHH.  We all have a Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and would like to add msata ssd to our laptops, however we need the daughter.  Please verify for us what current part number is that accommodates the daughter to support the addition of msata ssd to our laptops.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Tarak Abu Adam,

Welcome to the Community,

I've checked and I am not able to find this Part number N7J97 in our database.Could you double check and may I know from where you got this part number?

Part number N7JHH is the only part number I could find  for daughter board with the mSATA slot for system model Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520.

Hi Tarak Abu Adam,

To check for part availability you will need to contact Dell Sales at 1-877-717-3355  and check with Spare parts department.

I finally was able to buy a daughter board (N7JHH) on Ebay. Now I need to buy an msata ssd, 128GB.  I want to buy Samsung because they have better performance.  I have found two different models from Samsung in 128GB and they are

- MZMPC128HBFU

- MZMPA128HMFU

Can you tell me if either one of these will be compatible.  Or can I buy a 128GB ssd from Dell?  I heard that Dell uses Samsung drives, can you tell me if this is true and if so what model do they use in 128GB size?

Hi Tarak Abu Adam,

Inspiron 15R SE 7520 which is shipped with factory installed mSATA comes with only 32 GB mSATA card( Samsung PM810 32GB FULL MINI SATA2 SSD).This system model is not shipped with 128 GB mSATA SSD from factory. However other users have installed 128 GB mSATA SSD  and it worked(User  DomFrance67 in this thread used  Crucial m4 128GB and confirmed it worked on his system).

Either of the models you have posted should work on your system though I haven't come across any one who has tried those models and confirmed its compatibility.

Hi Everyone. Finally I've installed my daugther board with m-sata port and 128gb Msata SSD.

I've installed Windows 7 in it cause I still like it more than Windows 8.

Since my unit came without an msata port and of course without an SSD, I'd like to know which would be the best configuration I should take in order to optimize performance.

My actual configuration is:

Sata Operation: Changed from AHCI to Intel Smart Response Technology (Thought would be the right one having SSD)

Boot: Enabled Legacy Operation (Otherwise Windows 7 would not install)

I've also installed Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers in Windows 7. I didn't create a Raid 0 between the SSD and HDD.

When I tryied to install Intel Smart Techonology Response I got an error saying that my system didn't meet the basic requisites.

My questions are:

1)Is this the best configuration for speeding Up my laptop. If not Which should be my Setup Configuration considering these components?

2)I couldn't enable Intel Rapid Start Technology from Setup since I didn't create the 8gb Partition in the SSD.  Does it worth it? I know that with this option I wont have the Hibernate option but It's ok since with the SSD it takes more time to start up from Hibernation rather than from a fresh start.

3)Should I create a RAID0 with Intel Matrix Storage Manager? If not, Should I use this driver?

Any other suggestion would be welcomed

Thanks In Advance!

Nicolas

Hi, Any suggestions about the setup configuration for a 7520 that didn't have an msata installed and now has a 128gb mSata and the original 750gb HDD?

Thanks

If you have  15" model, and did not order it with the mSATA drive, you do not have the daughterboard.
