Operation System Not Found ( not a typo )

I have a Dell XS 15z Laptop

I am getting a windows 10 Recovery Message ( your PC couldn't start correctly )

I am attemting to create and use a recovery USB using the link below.

https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/sln298442/how-to-create-and-use-the-dell-recovery--restore-usb-drive?lang=en

Everything seems to work except I don't have the "Secure Boot" option in my Bios.

Anytime I try to boot the USB I get the message:

Operation System not found

Please advise.

Are you creating the recovery USB on a different PC?

I hope so.

Of course. The Bad PC won't boot. The procedure above seems to create the USB with a FAT32 filesystem that I can mount on the working computer. I've tried other USB's as well as other ports on the non working system

You are trying to re-install Windows 10 on a bad hard drive ?????

Ok lets start again. I have a Dell XPS 15z, it's OS is a windows 10 upgrade.

When I try to boot it I get a Recovery error.

Your PC needs to be repaired, critical error etc.....

In an attempt to repair this bad device I use a different system to create the USB above. This USB will be used to try to fix the broken XPS 15z

After using the working PC to create the USB I try to boot it using the broken XPS.

The USB drive responds with:

"Operation System not found"

I have a working PC that I created this "bootable USB"

And I have a broken Dell XPS 15z that I am trying to repair but won't boot the USB

Clear so far?

Yes. It seems my hard drive IS working as it attempts to boot and I am getting windows errors.

It looks like I have missing or currupted files.

File:Clipsp.sys

Error:oxc0000021

etc....

My building a boot USB is an attempt to repair the problem.

Update:

I figured I would try a different method.

I downloaded a Windows10 ISO via Dell Support using the service tag for the broken dell

I used rufus to create the USB with the iso with the following parms.

MBR Partition for UEFI

FAT32

Cluster = 32K

I have a Dell Latitude ES450 and I can boot this USB

But when I try in the broken XPS 15z I still get the error above

The system doesn't seem to recognize the format of the USB?

What format do I need ?

Does your hard drive show up in BIOS?

You trying to reinstalled or repair windows 10 on the broken XPS 15z? If yes, I would suggest creating a windows 10 installation media from the link below.

Download Windows 10 - microsoft.com

You'll need a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space and a good working computer. After creating the windows 10 installation media:

1. Insert the installation media( flash drive) into a USB port and then power off the system.

2. Power the computer on, quickly start tapping F12 key continuously until you see Preparing one time boot menu in the top right corner of the screen.

3. At the boot menu, select the USB flash drive( windows 10) under UEFI BOOT

4. Select your keyboard language.

You could either select Install Now to reinstall windows 10 or click the option to Repair Your Computer.

I don't want to sound rude but have you been reading along? I have created the USB using at least 3 different methods.I don't have an original install media because this was the free windows 10 update. I need a windows 10 bootable so I can repair the missing files. The part where the USB is supposed to BOOT in the failing Dell XPS 15.... I get an error:

"Operation System not found".

Are you the original owner of this laptop?

The second method linked by LSUFAN51 is to the official Microsoft Windows 10.

Try yet another PC to create this installation media. What you are describing simply is not normal and has not been documented anywhere.

Ok so the error I get seems to come up whenever ANY device that isn't bootable is attached.

en.community.dell.com/.../19455782

I attached a hard drive that isn't bootable to the USB port and it has the same error.

That leads me to believe that the USB drive are not being created properly.

I am using this information:

www.dell.com/.../how-to-create-and-use-the-dell-recovery--restore-usb-drive

But still get the error.

Yes I am the original owner. In order to download the Windows ISO I have to put in my service tag etc. My problem is the original media is windows 7 Home. I did the free Windows 10 awhile ago. The problem is simply that any Media I create using the Dell methods will not boot on this machine. I guess I could try to create a DVD/CD of the image. Is "Operation System not found" a poorly written DELL bios message?

Note: The recovery USB will start to boot on my Latitude ES450 but complains that it isnt the right machine ( which makes sense ). But on the XPS 15z it does not recognize the device as bootable?
