UP3214Q/UP2414Q - 1/2 screen issue and/or No picture after powering off, then on

I got some more problems with the UP3214Q: Every couple of computer starts, once I get the login screen displayed, only half the screen shows a picture (the right hand side), with the left half being black. After login, I get the full picture. Prior to the login screen, I also have full screen picture (BIOS screen, Windows loading screen). The second issue is even more annoying: If I power off the device while my PC is still running, then power it back on, I will never get a picture again. No amount of hitting random keys and klicking about (I can hear windows and moan in the background If I manage to blindly hit the wrong option) will get back any picture. Neither will switching to another input then back, nor will unplugging the displayport cable from the machine, or putting the machine to sleep and returning it back from sleep. The only way to get the picture back is to shut down the shut down the machine completely, then boot it up again. Is this supposed to happen or is something wrong with my display?

Hello,

I am using 331.93 on my GTX 780 TI. Resolutions can only be changed via NVIDIA control panel, but if I do this, I have no full Screen. 331.93 ist the best Version for me at the moment.

I have been testing the 327.23 drivers with my GTX 780 and they are certainly better than the latest WHQL release.

So far I haven't experienced half blanked screen or loss of signal when changing resolution or coming out of standby.

They still aren't perfect though.

There seems to be some kind of problem when the monitor is off and in standby. Switching it on and pressing the keyboard will cause a strange loop of device found sounds from Windows. While the signal is not lost, the screen is black. This may be related to having a second monitor plugged into the HDMI port of the graphics card. The solution in this case is switch off the UP3214Q and switch on the other monitor. Logging back into windows then switching the UP3214Q on again restores operations.

I hope Dell and Nvidia are working together on a more permanent solution.

@caffine: When in DisplayPort 1.2 mode, are you able to set custom resolutions in the nvidia control panel (e.g. 2560x1440) and then activate that resolution with the 327.23 drivers?

@Humba Custom resolutions do not work with 327.23.

I used Nvidia control panel to set 2560x1440, the video signal was lost and the computer became unresponsive. I needed to hit the reset button.

It doesn't look like the monitor supports a lot of resolutions, the control panel only lists 4 (3840x2160, 3840x1440, 1920x2160, 1920x1440), I'm guessing any application that set other resolutions will not work. I couldn't get 3DMark Vantage or 11 working and that was a resolution problem.

I was experiencing similar half screen issues with an AMD Firepro W5000 card, which is on your ok list to support 60hz MST.  Working with AMD, they believed the problem was with the dell displayport cable not having enough bandwidth to support 1.2.  I purchased a full size displayport 1.2 cable and like magic all the half screen problems disappeared.

I wonder how much of the problem is the dell supplied cable not having enough bandwidth.

@Aberlinger: That's funny since the official DisplayPort says there's no such thing as a DisplayPort 1.2 cable.. and that any cable must provide the full bandwidth as defined by the 1.2 standard. Dell does ship the same cable as with the U3014, but the latter is also a DP 1.2 capable display (and, at least in my limited testing, has similar problems coming back alive after power off (no half screen though as it's not a tiled display)).

If you don't consistently only get one half of the display on, that would indicate the cable should be fine (digital being all "it works or it doesn't") - the half screen, especially given what we've learned in this thread, seems to be more of an issue of the hardware and software working together. If one of the two virtual displays doesn't get a picture on power on, you get half the picture.

That's what I thought also, that a displayport cable is a displayport cable.  I pushed back to AMD when they said buy a tested cable for 4K as not all cables support the double bandwidth.

I bought an accell cable from amazon for about $20.  From Accell:  "Twice the Throughput of DisplayPort Version 1.1a the DisplayPort Version 1.2 cable is compliant to the DisplayPort version 1.2 specification and fully backwards compatible to DisplayPort version 1.1a. This DisplayPort cable supports PC resolutions of up to 3840x2160, stereoscopic 3D graphics and all HDTV resolutions including 1080p and 4Kx2K. The cable also supports daisy chaining of multiple monitors. The UltraAV DisplayPort cable transmits uncompressed audio, extended color depths and features a throughput of up to 5.4Gbps per lane, for a maximum total throughput of up to 21.6Gbps, twice the throughput of DisplayPort 1.1a."

hi, guys,

I just received my up2414q, and I hooked up with my 2012 RMBP. My screen is like a two separated panels with different color and brightness. Is this the manufacture flaw or the driver issue. Thanks.

That seems to be a new problem. I think you should contact your dealer or Dell for replacement.

Even with the 327.23 drivers, the monitor isn't properly resuming from standby consistently for me.

  • Leaving the monitor powered on and letting Windows power management set it to standby after a period of inactivity
  • After a number of hours, interacting with the keyboard and mouse does not bring the video signal back. the keyboard does respond
  • Switching the monitor off and on does restore the video signal.

laimike,

The 4K2K monitors requires DP1.2 compliant video card that supports 4K2K 60Hz output and a Tiled Display (DisplayID v1.3 compliance) graphics driver. Users with older non-4K2K video cards may result in either blank screen, two similar images on left and right side of the screen, or display 1920x2160 resolution if they switch the monitor from DP1.1 to DP1.2. Find out from apple if the Retina MacBook Pro has the necessary qualifications.

Hi all,

Touch wood but I havent had a half screen issue since my replacement.

But if I think back, I believe I stopped having these issues before the replacement, Im quite sure the "cure" was when I stopped using Gtx760 to drive my dual monitor setup.

I run the 4k off my gtx760 the other monitor by igu

ps I have the 24inch 4k, and the replacement was organised for banding issues
