R620, esxi6.7 and OpenManage

I don't build many servers, and have some questions about installing Openmanage.

There wasn't an OpenManage package on Dells website for the R620 and and esxi6.7, so I downloaded and install the 6.7 package for a R640 server.

I then downloaded the OpenManage Server Administrator (believe version 11.0.0.0 from the R620 Downloads (maybe should have downloaded from the R640 Download page).

When I try to log into the VM Server IP address with Root credentials, It hangs on Verifying Credentials, times out and tells me I have Login failed  connection timeout

I cannot find any good instructions to follow to assist me in troubleshooting my mistakes.

Thanks, Ken

*it is crucial to acquire the appropriate OMSA version tailored to your server model and ESXi version. It is advisable to download the software from the official Dell support website dedicated to your specific server model.

*You can move the OMSA VIB (VMware Installation Bundle) to your ESXi host. Tools like SCP or WinSCP can be used to copy the VIB file to your ESXi host's datastore.

* Connect to your ESXi host through SSH and employ the esxcli command to carry out the VIB installation. Here is an example command:

bash
esxcli software vib install -d /path/to/OMSA_VIB_file.vib

* You can try to restart ESXi Services. Following the installation, it may be necessary to restart the ESXi management services to activate OMSA. You can do this by executing the following commands:

bash
/etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog restart /etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog start

Accessing OMSA: Once OMSA is installed, you should be able to access it via a web browser. Enter the ESXi host's IP address and the OMSA port number (usually 1311) in the URL, such as https://<ESXi_host_IP>:1311. Use the root credentials of the ESXi host for login.

Firewall and Network Configuration: Ensure that the ESXi host's firewall permits incoming connections on the OMSA port (1311), and verify that your network settings are configured correctly.

If you encounter login problems or experience timeouts, inspect the ESXi host's logs for any error messages related to OMSA. You can also attempt to access OMSA from a different web browser or machine to rule out browser-related issues.

I have to say sorry but thats wrong or misleading

  1. The option -d is for a "depot" and when dealing with a *.vib you need -v
  2. Because OMSA for ESXi coming in a lightway fashion there is nothing on Port 1311 or at least no WebGUI. Instead you need a full blown OMSA installation on Windows/Linux and than choose "Remote Node" from the bottom. OMSA is used in a "reverse proxy" way than

@Ken Leb

We use ESXi 7.0.x on our R620.... unsupportet of course.  OMSA is installed but iam not sure if its in working condition. In the past we used together with OMIVV in a supportet combination.

Joerg
