Unlock Advanced Settings for InsydeH20 Bios

Hello World,

I'm not the type to post but I admit I'm in desperation mode. I'm reaching out for some help on something that I’m getting stuck with.

Here’s a quick rundown.

  • 1U PowerEdge R210 II
  • Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
  • BIOS InsydeH20 Version 03.70.451.1.1

The problem is that I have 4GB of memory installed and the OS can only see 2.74GB as usable. I’m trying to get the usual 3.46 GB that Windows 32-bit allows.

On a different 1U, different vendor (non-DELL), I was able to get passed this problem by changing a setting in the BIOS.

Now when I go into the BIOS for the R210, the options are very limited. Don’t see any type of advanced settings at all. My Dell sales rep says that they limit the BIOS on purpose.

I’ve been researching online and I’ve read that there is a way to unlock more settings on the InsydeH20 BIOS. My questions are:

  • Do you know how we can unlock more settings on the InsydeH20 BIOS?
  • Do you know of a way to get this system OS to see more than 3 GB of ram?

Thanks for all your help world!

I don't think this is a BIOS issue or even an issue specific to the PowerEdge R210 II, which I believe supports up to 32GB memory.

If you google:  Windows 32 bit 2.75 gb usable

...or:  Windows 32 bit 2.74 gb usable

you'll find lots of results.  Seems a graphics card can use up to 768 MB.

EDIT:  It's also possible that one of the DIMMs or memory slots is bad, especially if your config is 4x1GB.
