Dell R720 Raid using diffrent HDD Sizes

Hi All

Dell R720 Server fully updated using SUU

The server came with 8 x 600gb sas hard drives.

I would like to use my Sata 2x 4tb Seagate Iron Wolf and 4x 1tb Iron Wolf using Raid 0

However when I am in the Raid setup I see the 2 4tb hdds plus the 1tb hdds.

I select the 2 4tb hdds it states in the VD Size as 7541.00 GB but then when I select the 1tb hdd the VD Size drops down to 2793.00 GB

What do I need to do so I can use both 4tb and 1tb hdds togeather in raid without losing any hdd space.

I have installed windows 10 using only the 4tb hdds using UEFI Mode and when I view the the storage it states I have 7.xxx tb and the same when I install windows server 2016

Please see images

First Image showing only the 4tb selected

Second image shows when I select the 2 4tb and 1tb hdd

Many thanks

John

Hello,

The array will only use the capacity of each drive up to the smallest capacity drive in the array.

This is also the case if replacing a drive in an array. You can use a replacement drive that is the same size or larger than the drives in the array. If you use a larger one it will only use up to the size of the disks in the array.

You could put the two 4TB drives in a RAID0 and put the 1TB drive in a separate RAID0
