Moving from HCI to dual-layer

Apologies if this is covered somewhere else. I have a question regarding moving from HCI to a dual layer architecture. We're a relatively small shop, that could get bigger.  I don't see much value in the dual-layer architecture at this time, so a HCI architecture would be fine for now. In the future, should we need the added performance and scale, and we wish to change to a dual layer architecture, is it possible to convert our compute/storage nodes to purely storage nodes and then add compute nodes?  Is this difficult to do?  Thanks.

Disclaimer - I am PowerFlex user, not Dell employee

I don't see reason why you couldn't repurpose such HCI node and reinstall them as SO node only. On the other hand, unless you care about ESXi license costs and want to save some money, why you'd do it? I believe it's perfectly fine to run HCI and Dual architecture together in one system, just it would get bit harder to manage - but if you're using PowerFlex Manager and have proper templates for both architecture, Lifecycle tasks are doable without problem... (we actually have PF system with combined architecture, one PD is HCI, one PD is dual layer, all managed by one PFxM and no biggie)
