Dell CSEH-001 LTO5 - possible drive failure
Hello everyone,
I have a Dell CSEH-001 LTO5 tape drive that i believe is starting to fail. We were using it to duplicate virtual tapes to physical tapes, but most of the duplicate jobs failed with "Writing to media errors" and sometimes tapes were filled to half and were marked as full, losing half of the tapes capacity. We tried several tapes but with no luck.
I used the ITDT utility to gather the Dump files from the tape drive. I would like to know if i can send the files to you so you can take a look, since the files are in a special format that im not familiar with.

Hello,
You have probably tried this already but I'll ask; Have you done a clean cycle with a new cleaning cartridge?
Next verify that the firmware/drivers are up to date?

Hello Charles,
Yes, i ran several cleaning cycles using a Universal cleaning cartridge. I ran like 4-6 cycles by now.
I downloaded the two most recent drivers files (25 January 2024 and 22 November 2017), both of them failed to install with error "the update package is not compatible with your system configuration" (backup server is a 2016 Windows Server). However, i manage to extract the .ro file from the 2017 package and i flashed the drive using the ITDT utilty, but the errors still persist. The file from Jan 2024 did not show me the option to extract the .ro files from it.
