R520 with MD1000 - Drives not shown within Idrac/EMC

I would recommend updating the firmware of the iDRAC and BIOS, then try using OMSA to view storage within the OS.

Many thanks for your reply. I am having some difficulty updating the lifecycle controller. I have vmware installed on this server so i am unable to launch the updated from an operating system. If i do it on a virtual machine it fails predictably. I have also been struggling to do this on a USB stick. My choices are .exe and .bin - neither are recognised as an updateable image by the lifecycle controller. If i extract from the .bin and use the file, it still fails. I had no issue updating IDRAC but the lifecycle is being very challenging. Do you have any advice?

Hello, I think the iDRAC version may be confused with the BIOS. I see the latest BIOS for R520 is 2.9.0 and for iDRAC it is 2.65.65.65 https://dell.to/48zEacP
Could you please check it again, please? If iDRAC is not up to date, please do not update by jumping directly to the latest version. Update gradually. Large jumps between updates cause problems. If you do not want to do them all in order, update by skipping one or two versions at most.

Thank you. I do apologise, the unit I am upgrading is actually a PowerEdge R210. I do have to do the R520 after this, but i sorry for the confusion.

I upgraded from Idrac 1.90 to 2.90 is one go. The server seems stable.

What i wanted to do is update the lifecycle controller and then do all the firmwares, but as i do not believe we can update from ftp.dell.com anymore due to the age of the lifecycle controller firmware, i cannot use https.

So am attempting to update via usb without success

ah! I see, sorry about it. You're right due to the age of the LCC firmware, you can't find on "https://dell.to/4bNEFD0" You can check server update utility for R210. I found this one DELL EMC Server Update Utility, Windows 32 bit Format, v.17.12.00 | Driver Details | Dell US However it is a large file for all components of R210. Or you can check manually via Support for PowerEdge R210 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell US 

How to use the Server Update Utility?

From the LifeCycle Controller

1. Download the Full ISO file.
2. Use ISO mounting software, and mount the downloaded iso image.
3. Startup the server and press F11 to enter the LifeCycle Controller menu.
4. Click the "Platform Update" menu.
5. Select the "Local Drive (CD/DVD/USB" in the Update Repository source.
6. Enter the "Package Path," and run the Updates.

I also checked Systems Build and Update Utility (SBUU) but it seems decent old than SUU release.

Hi, the issue we had here was we could not transfer 9gb to a USB stick in fat32, which has a 4gb limit. For this reason we tried exfat but it would not recognize the USB stick in that format.

Its just the lifecycle controller i need to update, could i launch this from a bootable USB drive? how would i go about this?

Sure if you make a bootable USB and include the update file and run it, it should work.

Or you could use our Linux bootable Dell Support Live Image Version 3.0

Then supply the .bin file you could update that way.
