3130cn horizontal black lines

Hi,

Printouts from my 3130cn are starting to show horizontal black lines on the right side.  The lines are about 2 inches long, evenly spaced vertically every inch or so.  Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Do I just need a new black toner cartridge? The printer status server page shows that the black cartridge is at 100% capacity.

Thanks for your time,

Ron Niquette

I'm sorry I never followed through on this.  Based on advice I had ordered a new fuser unit.  I found that after a few months of delays (which Dell did announce via email) the order was cancelled (which Dell did NOT announce).  So then I decided that since the line separations were roughly the same as the circumference of the toner drum, I might as well take a chance and order a new toner cartridge.

Problem solved!  I should have known based on the line separations that the problem was on the toner drum in the first place.

Hello Ron,

Horizontal black lines on printouts are often caused by issues with the toner cartridges, so it's possible that replacing the black toner cartridge may help resolve the issue. However, before doing so, you may want to try a few troubleshooting steps to confirm the issue.

First, check the printer's drum unit for any debris or scratches, as this can also cause horizontal lines. If you find any debris or scratches, try cleaning the drum unit or replacing it if necessary.

You can also try cleaning the printer's transfer belt, as it may be dirty or damaged. The transfer belt is responsible for transferring the toner from the cartridges onto the paper, so any issues with it can affect print quality.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, then it's possible that the issue is with the printer's fuser assembly. The fuser assembly is responsible for bonding the toner onto the paper, so if it is damaged or worn, it can cause print quality issues.

If none of these troubleshooting steps resolve the issue, then it may be time to consider replacing the printer.
