Dell Command Update showing incorrect BIOS update version for Precision 3551

We are utilizing Dell Command Update to update device drivers in our environment. For one particular model, the Precision 3551, Dell Command Update is reporting that BIOS update version 1.25.1 being needed, despite Dell's support site for the 3551 reporting that 1.25.0 is the newest version available. When I oblige and attempt to update the BIOS via Dell Command Update, the update installs, the computer restarts with firmware update messaging as if the update is going through. When booting into Windows post update however, the Dell Command Update scan still shows that 1.25.1 is needed, and System Information shows that 1.25.0 is installed.

I am wondering if 1.25.1 is a typo in the app, and it's thinking that these machines need to update to 1.25.1 but in reality it doesn't exist. Posting this hoping someone from Dell will notice and be able to assist, or direct me to a different contact.

Hi JustinCase45:

What is your Windows operating system (the version and build can be found at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications) and current BIOS version?  To find you BIOS version open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R), enter msinfo32 to open the System Information window, and look for the "BIOS Version/Date" field.

As you noted, the Precision 3551 support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/precision-15-3551-laptop/drivers is currently recommending Dell Precision 3551 and Latitude 5411/5511 System BIOS v1.25.0 (Latitude_5X11_Precision_3551_1.25.0.exe) released on 07-Dec-2023, so if you already have BIOS v1.25.0 then I suspect the Dell Command Update utility recommendation to update to v1.25.1 is a glitch with this app.  See Dell employee @DELL-Chris M 's 02-Nov-2023 post in DiAngelo66's XPS 8960, Dell Update offering wrong Bios update! about a similar problem that recently happened with the Dell Update utility.  Hopefully DELL-Chris M or one of the other Dell employees will post in this thread and sort this out for you.

ASIDE: I would advise against allowing any Dell utility like SupportAssist or Dell Command | Update to install BIOS updates, even when the correct BIOS update is offered.  See my 12-Sep-2023 post in bear-o's SupportAssist 3.10.4 Unexpected Issue about alternate (and safer) ways to update your BIOS.  Also see the section titled "Installation Instructions" in the release notes <here> for the Dell Precision 3551 and Latitude 5411/5511 System BIOS v1.25.0 .exe installer.

Dell Inspiron 5584 * 64-bit Win 10 Pro v22H2 build 19045.3803 * Firefox v121.0.0 * Microsoft Defender v4.18.23110.3-1.1.23110.2 * Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.6.294-1.0.2201 * Macrium Reflect Free v8.0.7783 * Dell Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.22.1 * Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.1.0 * My Dell v2.2.6.0

@lmacri Thanks for the response. This does appear to have been a glitch with the app, as I retried a DCU scan after a few days and the Dell Command Update app is no longer suggesting the non-existent 1.25.1 BIOS for my Precision 3551, but instead that all of my drivers are up to date, which is expected since I have the 1.25.0 version installed. It appears Dell has resolved the issue so I will mark your comment as the solution. Best of luck in the new year!
