Dell SCG Unable to upgrade from GUI - 5.16 to 5.18

i keep getting this error while updating using the GUI.

"We couldn't finish downloading your gateway update. Check your network connection and try again."

Unfortunately, the download does not work after a fresh reboot either. I have created a snapshot before.

Thanks & many greetings
Michael

Hello Michael,

Could you try FireFox and check your results?

Are you using the Application or Virtual Appliance version of SCG?

Hello Charles,

thank you very much for your answer.
Unfortunately I have the same situation with Firefox ;(
We have the Virtual Appliance in use.

many greetings

Hello Martin,

that doesn't sound like a practical solution. Is there no other chance?

Thanks & many greetings

Hello Michael,

If the update will not complete and a reinstall is needed, it would have to be a new install of 5.18 as there is not an offline upgrade option.

Have you tried reboot the SCG appliance? If possible are able to reboot the SCG host?

With the download error you are getting it is likely an network issue.

Can you confirm you meet the Network requirements?

Hello Charles,

I have already tried the restart, unfortunately also without success. The network requirements are met and I can also see in the central network logs that about 300 MB have been downloaded.

many greetings

Hello Michael ,

Did you get a chance to reboot the host server?

Have you also verified in Chrome and Edge after clearing cache?

You've verified all the network configuration is correct.

As noted it may need a clean install of 5.18. I have seen this on a couple cases.

I'd recommend contact support directly and an engineer can do a remote session with you to get a look.

Hello Charles,

thank you very much for your feedback.
The sentence "I have seen this on a couple cases." convinced me and I sacrificed the time and reinstalled. This will save me the additional time I spend with support and potentially in a remote session.

However, I am not very happy with the esrs/scg having recurring problems with updates over the last 5 to 8 years. In this process I would like to see more reliability from DELL.

I had double checked the network configuration before and ruled it out as a source of error.

Now the SCG runs in any case in the version 5.18 ;)

many greetings & a nice weekend
Michael

For anyone still encountering this issue, you should try the fix that is provided here (need to login to view):

Secure Connect Gateway (SCG): Gateways previously upgraded from SRS 3.52 directly to 5.16 fail to update to a later version | Dell US

The tl;dr version is there's a missing mount that's required for the upgrade. If you've already attempted the upgrade, you'll also need to follow these steps to essentially clear the GW MTF sessions and reset the download attempt:

https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/secure-connect-gateway/dell-scg-unable-to-upgrade-from-gui-512-to-516/64a3fb8bf4ccf8a8de9fa6f6?commentId=64a3fbadf4ccf8a8dea3733b

Once this is complete and the patch is applied to the SCG server, the upgrade should complete (I needed to do this on a few SCG deployments).
