dell I7-10875 USB harddrive will not read

Dell I7-10875 will not read external hard drive

I have 4 hard drives full of movies downloaded.  I do a lot of traveling were I dont have internet acess and have media on external hard drives works for me.  But sice I got my dell.  I would read the hard drives then slowly each one of the four hard drives will not work.  I dont under stand why it works 7-8 times the one day it no longer reads the drive.  So I move to the next drive.  Now all for drives will not work and my last trip over seas I had nothing to watch.  So why did my Dell stop reading my hard drives after a few uses.  I tried divice manager but it will not read the drive.
