SAMSUNG 256 gb SSD Firmware Update for Windows 7 TRIM?

Does anyone have an idea how to get the updated Firmware for the Samsung 256gb SSD?  My current firmware is VMB19D1Q - which does not support TRIM.  I have reached out to Samsung who sends me back to Dell and Dell seems not to know when Samsung is releasing the firmware.  I have a copy of an email where a Samsung person says the firmware for this drive has been released to Dell.  Any assistance - please ?  When paying this much money for these drives - I did not expect them to have flaws before I purcahsed.

Well guys I thought I'd share with you what I did.  I've been following this thread and trying to get an appropriate response from dell but all efforts have been in vain.  I told one tech support guy that I want firmware for the drive and he insisted that there is never firmware for any kind of hard drive EVER!  Haha he kept insisting and insisting and telling me I was wrong and I tried to explain it to him from as many angles as possible.  The guy eventually hung up on me!  That made me pretty mad.  I don't think a tech support guy can hang up on you.  I was being quite polite as well.

Anyway I can't necessarily blame all the tech support guys for this.  I blame management or whoever is responsible for informing them about these issues.  Nevertheless most of them were arrogant fools and I left my fair share of VERY negative reviews about dell customer support.  Yea that will show them :)

Anyway finally I gave up and asked for a new hard drive.  I told them my drive speeds were significantly lower than they  were when I first got the drive (which they were of course. I've ran periodic benchmarks). And they send me a brand new drive with the new firmware.  Trim enabled and everything.  Windows experience rating jumped from a 5.9 to a 6.9 :)  The last tech person I talked to about replacing the drive was quite helpful and I thank  that person greatly.

*********I STRONGLY RECOMMEND**********

Get a replacement drive.  It shipped overnight which was pretty cool, and I had it installed and running the day after I called in.  Just image your drive using acronis or something and it's a breeze.  If you're going to flash the firmware you have to wipe the drive anyway so just skip all of Dell's muck and replace it.  Installing the drive is really easy.  If you're not familiar with installing new hard ware you seriously can just open the computer and figure it out yourself.  You unscrew the screws holding in the drive and replace it with your new one.  IMO this is a lot easier than creating a boot drive and flashing.  Plus your SSD is brand new :)  Tell dell your drive has slowed down a lot and they won't give you hassle.  If they do. GET ANGRY!  It is there responsibility to fix this problem and replacing the drive fixes it.  It is under warrenty the drive is defective.  They owe you a new one.

Thanks for the updates guys - much as I hate to let go of this one, I have to concede I think you guys are right, a new drive is actually the easiest solution.

I'm a little stumped as I'm posted overseas at present, but I'll see if I can get it through global support.

I'm not able to give you a specific contact right now for your situation.  If you bought the drive from dell they should replace it no problem.  I'll look into this more and see if I can get you a better answer but for now I have a few suggestions.  I know the drive has a manufacturers warranty that lasts a year I think it is.  I would resort to buying and returning only as the very last option.  Dell is obligated to fix this problem for you.  Have you tried chatting online with a tech support agent?  I find this to be the most convenient way as it connects and they respond fairly quick.  That is how I did it.  If you have the order number in a confirmation email or something I'm almost positive they will be able to help you.  I would try that first and if for some reason they can't help you ask them who would.  Also just to be safe make sure you specify to them that they make sure the drive has the new firmware.  I doubt that it would be a problem but you never know.  Also be sure to tell them the drive is not performing right.  If you just say it has bad firmware I'm not sure they'll replace it.  I told them my benchmarks. (dropped from 230MB/s Read and 180 write down to under 200 and 150).

That's the link to contact them.  Choose chat online or another one of the options if you want.

That's where I'd start for now.

If for some reason that doesn't work let me know and I'll see what I can find for you.

That's such a seflish approach on which Dell counts...

What should I do if I'm in Poland right now and I just CAN"T take my drive to them easly?

The thing is to backup and just run some software...

Why do I have to shipp the drive back to dell? Thay sold me a drive, they should support it.

AND WHAT IF I WERE ON NORTH/SOUTH POLE? Would it be easier to download a soft via sat link OR find a DHL guy?

THERE ARE NO WORDS OF EXCUSE - WHY? - cause other manufacturers/resellers DID PROVIDE THE RIGHT TOOLS TO DO THAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bimx they ship you the new drive overnight and give you the return box/shipping label for your old drive.  You can then call a FedEx guy or whoever to come pick it up for you.  Of course that's what they did for me in the US i would assume things would be relatively similar for you in Poland.

Otherwise idk what to tell you other than the alternative ways offered to flash these drives that sometimes do and don't work.

The problem is that I've already tried to exchange the drive without success...

Polish Dell support for hardware bought abroad does NOT exist. It's "sad but true" like someone famous said...

The only answer after awhile was: "Go to whom selld ya tha drive. We didn't so gtfo of here".

What can I do? Chat with US Dell support to do what? I'm outside of US............. That means NOMAD!!!

bimx, what you need to do is submit an Ownership Transfer request. The US form is here: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/change_order/tag_transfer?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml

That will allow you to change your country and address.

I will be contacting Dell UK soon regarding a new drive and will report the results here. Given that the international outlets are a bit behind the US (i.e. there's no chat for the Studio XPS laptops in the UK), this could go either way.

Good help all around, delyank.  You're not tech support, are you?  :)

i have the same firmware you do - my drive manufacture date is 12/24/09

using this command at an administrator enabled (important) CMD prompt:

fsutil behavior query disabledelete notify

a 1 response = no trim

a 0 response = trim enabled

mine reports a zero.  dell doesn't know what they are talking about (as usual)

this is documented here:  http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=240102

I also have a drive with firmware VBM9LD1Q.

When i called dell they did say that this firmware was NOT TRIM enabled. Again it is NOT TRIM enabled. I have multiple cases open with Dell to see if we can get a better idea of when they are releasing the Trim enabled firmware.  I would call your sales rep if you are a business and open a case with them and see if they can escalate it to the higher ups. If you are a user I would call support and open a case. The more people that log their concerns the better.

Most of the support I have talked to claim that it may be a month or more before we see the update because the update has to go through the standard dell testing.

Is it not the case in order for Trim to work properly both the OS windows 7 in this case and the drive both have to support trim. or am i completely mistaken.

does fsutil behavior query disabledelete notify just tell me the OS is running TRIM? And it would be cause windows 7 is trim enabled.

Spread false information much?  DisableDeleteNotify = 0 means your system does NOT support TRIM.  Even the thread you posted has the correction a few posts down.
