SATA drive to SSD drive imaging

Can I image the SSD Drive from my current SATA Drive using the Microsoft windows seven imaging software. Or should I just reload from scratch the programs.

By Microsoft imaging software, I assume you mean Backup and Restore under the Control Panel? You can, but the problem is that if you are imaging (restoring your backup) to a larger drive, the partitions will not be resized. You would have to go through the trouble to resize the partitions in order to utilize the unallocated space, and that usually requires deleting partitions in order to do so. You won't be able to image to a smaller drive as well for the same reason. Windows Backup and Restore is essentially used to get you back up and running due to software or corruption issues.

There's software that you can use in order to image your drives, which will allow you to resize the partitions for the destination drive. The one that's usually recommended here is Macrium Reflect Free. However, this edition is in the process of being discontinued, and the trial/pay versions will become the only options. Although it is no longer listed, Reflect Free can still be downloaded from their website, but expect it to be pulled after the beginning of next year.

If your computer was made within the last 5 or so years and has been regularly updated, you may have the option to image your drive using Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery under the "back up my files" option. I have personally not used this, so I'm not sure about partition resizing and such, but it maybe automatic.
