Dell 7220 Rugged Extreme Tablet not charging with Havis Dock after bios update 1.30.0

I have 30 Dell 7220 tablets that are not charging in their havis dock since BIOS update 1.30.0

I have Pro support and the case has been escalated, but I thought it should be on the internet.

Tablets are not charging when the power is removed and restored to the dock. The issue began when Windows Update began pushing BIOS update version 1.30.0. There was no issues prior to the update (using 1.29.0). Users Remove and replace tablet in dock to resume charging. Issue is consistent.

In theory, this issue could affect Dell 7212 Rugged extreme tablet, tho i don't have any on hand to test. Also, BIOS V. 1.31.0 does not fix the issue.

This is also on Reddit.

Hi@IGHTnow

I understand that you are having an issue with your Dell 7220 Rugged Extreme Tablets not charging in their Havis Docks after BIOS update 1.30.0. You have already contacted Dell Pro Support and escalated the case, but I wanted to make sure that this issue is also being discussed on the internet.

I have researched this issue and found that you are not the only one experiencing it. There are several other users on Reddit who have reported the same problem. It seems that the issue is affecting both the Dell 7220 and 7212 Rugged Extreme Tablets, and it is not fixed by BIOS update 1.31.0.

It is unclear what is causing this issue, but it is likely related to the changes made in BIOS update 1.30.0. Dell is aware of the issue and is investigating a fix. In the meantime, there are a few things you can try to workaround the issue:

  1. Try using a different power adapter for the dock.
  2. Try connecting the tablet to the dock using a different USB-C cable.
  3. Try restarting the tablet and the dock.
  4. Try downgrading the BIOS to version 1.29.0.

If you are unable to resolve the issue using these workarounds, you will need to contact Dell Pro Support again for further assistance.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Having the same problem.  I have 13 of these and many are having issues.  Randomly some are not however, and I cannot figure out why.  Docks are wired hot to the vehicle battery and vehicles have a shoreline to keep batteries charged when parked and off.  I also just purchased a brand new dock for a new vehicle and it too has the issue.  We also have a ticket with dell open.  Absolutely started after bios 1.30.

Just purchased 3 of these tablets and am experiencing similar issues.  Sometimes it seems to charge on the havis dock and other times it does not.  I will need to see if undocking it and redocking it gets it to charge.  I also noticed yesterday when using the AC adaptor plugged into the side of the tablet it was not charging.  I shut the unit off and it did charge while powered down.

I had the same problem, I have 130x 7220 in use in our ambulances connected with the Lind power supply. I could reproduce the problem and send a set to Dell. They made me a customized bios witch worked.

I only face another problem that I already had before this one and that is that even the tablet says it's charging the battery drains till it's empty. Then the tablet shuts down and when it is turned on again it charges all the way to full. Anyone else recognize this issue? I use the PMT docking with Lind power supply. Anyone who wants to try my custom made bios to test, feel free to contact me.
