Dell Venue 11 pro 7140 Stuck at Dell-Logo after Firmwareupdate

I recently bought a used Dell Venue 11 pro 7140. As I had some issues with the Active pen, I tried to install the following firmware update for the digitizer:

http://dell.to/1qNxuk0

Like recommended for the 7130 in another thread. As the software did a Systen Info Check with no errors i assumed that there are the same displays in7130 and 7140 and continued the installation. After it ran through, the software asked for a reboot. Everything was working fine so far.

But when i tried to reboot, the tablet got stuck at the dell logo. When trying to enter BIOS or any other pre-boot environment it gets stuck as well at "entering bios setup". The CPU seems to get pretty warm after some minutes.

So I openend up the tablet, disconnected the screen cable (LCM). Then everything is working just fine via hdmi and external screen. Normal bootup and entering bios is no problem.

Is there anything I can do to save the tablet?

Hi Steve,
I finally replaced the whole screen. Mine is working fine now and you can find screens online for around $40.

The problem is the firmware on the synaptics touch controller. You could disconnect it and use your tablet as a notebook without touch/pen functionality (I've tried that before replacing my screen and it worked for me). It's the connector on the lower left side of your tablet, but you'll have to remove the dark plasticframe before.

It's the connector above the black checkmark on this picture.

Hope it helps.

Could a Dell-team-member provide a Touch Firmware for the 7140 please? It's not available on the Website and I think I found a way to flash it in Windows.

Hi Aichi,

I have exactly the same experience to my Dell Venue 11 pro 7140 recently.

I updated the touchscreen Firmware for 7130 and then it stucks on the dell screen.

Did you solve the problem? I'm wondering if there is a way to remove the touchscreen firmware or replace it with new?  If you have any idea to save the tablet, please share with me.

Thank you.

Hi,
the main problem is that Dell is not very helpful. Technical support just suggested to reinstall Windows, which won't work because it's a firmware issue and firmware is not installed on the hard drive, but directly into the hardware chip of the screen. But seemed like the guy there didn't know the difference between drivers and firmware.
Long story short: I've not found any solution yet, as Dell refuses to provide the firmware for the 7140.

What I figured out so far:
If you remove the backplate and disconnect the screen-cable, you are able to boot the Tablet (connected via the mini HDMI port).
Reflashing the firmware would be possible in the following way (Danger of completly destroying the mainboard through short-curcuit but for me it worked):
Disconnect the screen cable, boot the tablet to the pre-boot menu (turn it on and hit volume up repeatedly). After that, reconnect the cable while the Tablet is still running (watch out not to short-circuit anything). The device will vibrate and boot up. You still need the HDMI connection to see anything, but now flashing firmware would possible (tested with the wrong 7130 again). Dell just doesn't provide any firmware for the 7140. Maybe we could ask Sharp or Synaptics (Manufacturers for our screen I think) but I'm afraid we are out of luck here. If you get any further please tell me.

"Fun"-Fact: There have also been issues with the firmware for the 7130.
