Unable to access whole screen when opening Hyper-V Windows

Hi guys,

I have Microsoft Windows OS 2019 on my Dell PowerEdge R730XD server and the basic display driver has 1024x768 resolution.  Is there a way to get more display resolution options?.. because when I open Hyper-V windows I can't access the whole screen and its maddening.  Do I need an additional graphics driver?  Can you please provide any suggestions?  I truly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Hi @S3rverSavvs

Yes, you need to install a dedicated graphics card driver to get more display resolution options and to be able to access the whole screen when opening Hyper-V windows on your Dell PowerEdge R730XD server with Windows Server 2019.

To install a dedicated graphics card driver, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the model of your graphics card. You can do this by using the Device Manager.
  2. Download the latest driver for your graphics card from the manufacturer's website.
  3. Run the driver installation file.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  5. Once the driver is installed, you should be able to access the full screen when opening Hyper-V windows.

Here are some additional tips:

  1. Make sure that your graphics card is compatible with Windows Server 2019. You can check the Windows Server Hardware Compatibility List to see if your graphics card is compatible.
  2. If you are using a remote desktop connection to access your server, make sure that the remote desktop connection is configured to support the full screen resolution of your monitor.
  3. You can also try changing the display resolution of your server. To do this, right-click on the desktop and select "Display settings". Then, under "Resolution", select the desired resolution.

If you are still having problems accessing the full screen when opening Hyper-V windows, you can contact Dell support for further assistance.
