Vsphere essentials kit need ProSupport

Hi,
I was looking at setting up a new server, but I wanted to understand why you are forced to choose the ProSupport service when you also purchase a Vsphere essentials kit license, is it just a commercial matter? Can I safely use a Vsphere license I own or buy it from other partners, of course?
