Dell VxRail 8.0x Administration Guide Improvements

Have you seen the new Dell VxRail 8.0x Administration Guide yet? A big change in organization has been made with this release and all VxRail Administrators should take notice. The version 7.0 document was kind of slim, only covering a few topics and referring to SolVe to cover nearly all of the important procedures. I never referenced the version 7.0 Administration Guide in class because all the information my students needed was in SolVe.

In the new version 8.0 document, the authors are starting to transition the material from SolVe into the Administration Guide. ALL of the How To topics, including managing VxRail networking, passwords, removing a node, and setting up file-based backup are now EXCLUSIVELY in the Dell VxRail 8.0x Administration Guide. In fact, the entire SolVe How To section for version 8.0 is just a link to the new Administration Guide. The version 8.0 Administration Guide also does a much better job of describing the overall VxRail solution and the various configuration options than the version 7.0 Administration Guide did.

Some of the more complex procedures such as adding or replacing disks, adding nodes, or performing updates, are still referenced only in SolVe. The questions that SolVe asks regarding your VxRail model, version, and so on, are still critical in generating the correct document for these procedures. When the Administration Guides introduces a topic that is only covered in SolVe it provides a link, so there should be no confusion about which document to use.
