[VxRail 8] DNS configuration

Hi experts !

I'm looking for advice on configuring communication between the internal DNS on VxRail Manager and an external client's DNS. This setup is particularly important in cases where the external DNS becomes unavailable, ensuring the ability to restart the VxRail cluster seamlessly.

Appreciate your assistance in advance!

Does that mean that the upstream DNS will correspond to the ip of the external DNS server ?

Correct.
In those configuration (Internal DNS & Upstream DNS), VxRail components, such as ESXi and vCenter, refer to Internal DNS (dnsmasq on VxRail Manager) for name resolution.

Internal DNS replies answer for VxRail component name resolution, but if the query is about the one out of the scope, it forwards the query to upstream (External) DNS that you define.

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

Page 70 https://dell.to/49IEC9L It is designed for internal or external DNS but not both. Maybe you could do something with the API configuration of DNS. https://dell.to/49HETK3

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

I'm not completely sure what you want to do, but if you want internal DNS to forward request to External DNS, you can find a procedure to add/remove upstream DNS server for Internal DNS.
However, it's only available for 7.x. You can request information via support contract for VxRail 8.0 release.

When you talk about upstream DNS, what exactly are you referring to ? Does that mean that the upstream DNS will correspond to the ip of the external DNS server ?

Thanks
