WDM slow device discovery

Hi

We recently installed WDM 5.0 to manage 100 devices. After the default install no devices were found. Now 5 days later, we see about 30 devices. I know that more than 50 devices are turned on every day.

Will they only be discovered after a reboot or new DHCP lease?

Running the discovery wizard takes forever without finding extra devices.

Closing the WDM and restarting it sometimes shows us more devices.

Can anyone please explain to me how the discovery takes place?

Thanks a lot!

Roel,

unfortunately there is not enough information, as different models an OS's react differently, so I'll give you a general answer.

WDM 5.0 is an unsupported (EOL) version so you should be using 5.7.2 unless you are using old clients. WDM works by communicating to the thin clients "AGENT". The agent version on older clients may not communicate properly with newer versions of WDM, so they need to be updated to the version supported by WDM (See the release notes for your WDM version). With Windows and Linux clients, the agent can be updated individually. With ThinOS thin client, you need to upgrade the firmware.

Also, If you do not configure your DNS or DHCP severs for WDM auto-discovery, the discovery of the thin client will take a little bit longer.

For more details on this, please review the WDM Installation Guide
