<p>Way back in 1999 or so, i bought a used Inspiron notebook on eBay. Added a DVD drive ( found on ebay). Took it to Moscow a year or two later... replaced the screen there (found one on eBay). Used the machine another year or two, then passed it on to one of my Russian friends. It is still in use today (2012!)</p> <p>So that was my first and only DELL experience, not too unpleasant - and after years of ASUS, I'm back looking at DELLs (for a change) [:)]</p> <p>**Jan 2013 update: purchased Inspiron 17R SE (7720)... great hardware, really nice and solid - works like a charm. Installed 256G mSATA SSD as the boot drive, and did a clean install of WIN8 Pro.
