Fan noise on XPS 13 (9343, Early 2015)
Hi,
I just received my XPS 13 and the fan noise is louder than I was expecting. It is on almost constantly and will spin up and down repeatedly.
Is this normal, all I have really done is install office and some other apps. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Thanks for any advice offered

I have the same problems. got the i7 with qhd+.
the fan also makes a wobbling sound when i move the notebook. If this wouldnt be a new mashine , i would guess the fan is about to die. I updated the bios today and it made a little difference. the fan does not stop so aprupt and starts "later". However this is no option for me. Ill keep trying over the weekened but if i dont notice a difference ill return the notebook and try with the i5 1080p version. Dont need the touch and cant imagen an application for it... .
@dell: i hope you are working with all efforts on a solution! this is bullshit in a nice cover and awesome display...
Edit: further more i noticed a wobbling sound if the fans runs an the notebook is tilted a bit.
Also ich watch on a second screen netflix and the video (NOT AUDIO) started laggen for 0.5 sek, (in a 45 min series about 5 times... ). Furthermore the trackpads reaktion is not really good. It jumps a bit when the i uses it ( just the innitialising movement).
EDIT2:
so i just recorded the wobbly sound of the fan. does anyone else have similarities?
Sound on the video is sadly a bit low. But you hear it when i move the notebook in the vid.

It makes no difference in my case. I've tried different tdp settings and when plugged in the fan revs up like crazy..

My XPS 13 i5 since I exchanged it for another is pretty quiet now but got to say I have had atom processors feel faster than this!
And I've checked tdp settings also!

Hi
Could you make a video with this issue? Many users complain about 'coil whine' issue and still has no solution.

I have exactly the same issue. I have also made a video of it. Seems there is a lot of i7 with QHD+ display experiencing the same issue. I suspect poor cooling solution. Back to the drawing table Dell?

I have the i7 with the 512 ssd configuration. I also have issues with the fan constantly coming on. I talked to Dell Tech Support and they said this is not a known issue. I'm guess most people are purchasing the i5 with 1080p display and therefore are probably not experiencing the fan issue that we, the i7 QHD+ display, are experiencing. The tech support I spoke to said he'll be sending me a replacement unit with the same configurations so I hope that maybe the one I got was a lemon.
If the problem still remains, I'll probably opt down to the i5 QHD+ display and see how that goes. And if the problem continues on that, I'll just go with the i5 1080p display. Although I really want the touchscreen. And then I can just purchase the m.2 ssd on newegg or amazon. I'm really disappointed in Dell.

I have the i7, 512 SSD configuration and the fan noise is incredibly loud with just a couple of tabs in the browser and a text editor open. This is not what I expect with $2000.
After 2 days of use....

I've just received my new 2015 XPS 13 core i5 1080p 128gb ssd 8gb ram and am experiencing the same problem. I really hate the fan noise; it's extremely loud and comes on randomly even though I'm not doing cpu intensive stuff (watching a video with two extra tabs opened) and goes away after a few moments, then comes back on.
If this is "not a known issue" please make it one because it's driving me crazy.
