Frequently Asked Questions

Dell Migrate guides you through the process with step-by-step instructions and prechecks to help you get ready. Before you begin, make sure both PCs are connected to the same local network. On your old PC, go to Dell.com/DataAssistant to download Dell Data Assistant, then follow the guided steps to get started.

Dell Migrate transfers supported content identified on your old PC, including files, photos, documents, and certain supported settings.
Installed applications, programs, and software licenses are not transferred and will need to be installed separately on your new PC.

Move everything for me transfers all supported content identified by Dell Data Assistant to the primary drive on your new PC.
Let me choose what to move gives you more control, allowing you to select the supported content you want to transfer and choose where you want it saved.

Dell Migrate transfers your supported content to the destination selected during migration. Whether your files are synced to OneDrive afterward depends on the Windows and OneDrive settings on your new PC.
Dell Migrate handles the transfer, while OneDrive controls any cloud sync after your files arrive.

When your migration is complete, Dell Migrate provides a summary of the results, including any files or settings that did not transfer successfully.
You can retry those items or choose to continue without them. If you need additional help, visit Dell Migrate Learn Page for support and troubleshooting information.
