Can I power my laptop / charge it through the USB-C port (Vostros 5502)?

Vostro 5502

Vostro 5502

My Vostros 5502 uses a 65 Watt Power Adapter (19.5v DC).  It also has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort alt mode/Power Delivery.

If I don't have the Dell power adapter with me, can I power the Vostros using its USB-C port and a USB-C phone charger.  If so, do I need a 65 watt phone charger?  Is there any risk in damaging the Vostros if powered this way?

If the USB-C port was wired with power delivery, you should be able to power the laptop using USB-C charger.  To charger the battery, verify in BIOS settings if the charger is recognized as a 65W adapter.

The BIOS doesn't appear to identify the charger.  The BIOS Power tab has several options about A-C/battery configuration but no mention of the USB-C.  There are also options about enabling the USB-C for boot and wake on Dell USB-C Dock.

My invoice states and spec sheet indicates "USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort alt mode/Power Delivery".  Dell Support replied.  Initially, Dell Support said to use the regular power supply but after a few questions said I could use a Dell-approved USB charger.  I intend to use the regular power adapter when possible but in a pinch wanted to know if I could power it through the USB-C without doing any damage.  It sounds like it should work.  Thanks.
