Dell 7500Laptop with i710th gen/GTX1650ti bloat software complications

So I purchased a Dell 7500 Laptop with 10th gen i7 and the GTX1650ti.

First and foremost the bios for this laptop is some serious junk. With loads of restrictions that I cant run the laptop in "High-performance" mode. The only option I get is "Balanced". Dell definitely needs to do a bios update and unlock the laptop for the end user.

Secondly for what ever reason Dells bloatware programming to communicate with the bios made it prohibited from installing XBOX game bar so I was unable to use the gamebar diagnostics tools to monitor CPU,GPU,RAM, and Frametime. The only fix for this was to wipe out Dells 5 partition O.S and reinstall win10 pro without any of dells software instructions, and made it a 3 partition O.S disk system.

Now game bar works, but the bios is still locked at "Balanced". Does Dell plan to do a bios update to unlock the bios's balanced mode? I would like to fully utilize the GTX1650ti. Even when I go into Nvidias control panel and set all parameters for high performance it still appears the bios throttles back the full potential of the GTX1650ti.

Its sold as a "business" laptop geared for business, but the equipment and specs are good enough to make this a great value "gaming" laptop.

You can create your own power management scheme as you wish, but this is a hybrid system -- if you were expecting a true, discrete GPU, that's not what you purchased.  This is a software-controlled hybrid where the dGPU is a co-processor for the Intel GPU -- all video data passes through the Intel GPU on its way to the display screen.

There are still systems with hardware-selectable GPUs -- mostly Alienware, a couple of G-series, and the very high end XPS 17 with the nVidia 4080 GPU.  You won't find that feature set on any Inspiron/Vostro models of recent vintage.

Return the system to the seller if you're not happy with it -- this is a 2020 model, so it's about 3-4 years old and is either used, or old stock.  It is four CPU generations old at this point.

The system supports modern standby, which is why the only option is a balanced power management scheme.

No Inspiron system has ever been sold as a "business" system -- though they often do have "small business" equivalents with slimmer software pre-loads and are sold as Vostro notebooks.  The only other difference between an Inspiron and a Vostro is the cosmetics.

@ejn63 why would I return it? The ebay certified reseller sold it to me for $360 and its in mint condition with 16GB pre installed.

Most laptops in this class and spec are still selling on average for $420 used and upto $500 refurbished certification.

The system works. Just have no isea why Dell would install a gtx1650ti yet have the system locked for balanced.

makes no sense. None

@ejn63 I believe what you mean by “hybrid” is that its using Nvidias Optimus mobile technology for the pass through to dump into the integrated so the system will always bottleneck.

It also appears that this model is not “MUX” switch enabled. Which Dell if they wanted to could add the MUX switch instruction to the hardware in a bios update. To bypass intels gpu, by adding routing the channel through the secondary HDMI compiler with a route back to monitor.

As for now its not a bad laptop. Most modern games are playing 60fps.

Hardware switching needs to be enabled on the system board -- either the system has a MUX, or it does not.  This one doesn't -- so no firmware update is going to enable a hardware feature the board lacks in its design.

And at between 3-4 years old, no major feature updates will be issued, as this system is very near end of life status.

@ejn63 manufacturers are required by law to do updates for 10years to prevent E-waste , security breaches, and early obsolesence, even if the device doesnt meet the manufacturers warranty standards.

So I don't know why you keep trying push people in the direction of buying new equipment.

Not everyone is wealthy and can afford that $1000 plus laptop, let alone a $400 laptop.

If there's a law where you're located that requires this, it's an exception -- certainly there is no such law in the Americas.  And while there is stronger right to repair legislation in Europe, there's no requirement that replacement parts be priced at any particular level.  Once a system is about three years old, the cost of repair for a major failure will exceed the value of the device (and some manufacturers' devices have repair parts priced that the point of no return comes much sooner than that).

And though I have indeed suggested that repairs are uneconomic in many circumstances, I've also many times suggested buying a newer -- not necessarily a new -- replacement.  It makes little sense to fit a $100 mainboard into a five year old Inspiron system worth half that complete and working.

As for security updates, good luck getting those for more than a few years at this point.  You may get five years or perhaps even six or seven --- but not ten.

@ejn63 under the NDAA National Defense Authorization act.

Manufacturers are required to provide security for equipment up to year 10. From foreign or domestic hackers that can find back doors through the bios.

The oldest update I have ever received was for the HP elite 8300 tower first produced in 2011. Received a 2020 bios revision 3.09 that was related to intels AMT/ME micro code. That HP failed to update for 9 years.

made a huge world of difference as before I was getting the free version of user benchmark

from their servers. To all of a sudden after the update having to pay a subscription for user benchmark.

Yeah, its way off topic. But that update for security was officially 9 years old.
